I saw this during a boat tour and the guide explained how much this piece of history has been loved/maintained by the townspeople. It originally was closer to the river and everyone was scared that it would wash away. The town pulled resources/money together to save it by having it moved further away from the river and a foundation added. It was privately funded so that the federal government couldn't have an opportunity to ever destoy their civil war history. The guide also stated that it was never used due to any battles being fought near the town. Who knew one tiny brick structure had so much information attached to it

Built in the early 1860's this is a very unique structure. The fact that it is still standing is a small miracle. It is one of the only Confederate Magazines in the country.

This JOM cannot be seen easily. First time I was able to see it, several of us walked down by the Railroad Tracks and spotted it across the bayou. It was a wonderful experience. The second time was from the Tour Boat. Got a great look at it and good photos coming and going. Powder and munitions were stored here during the War Between the States by the Confederacy. This is the only Confederate Magazine in Texas left. It is about to slide off into the Bayou and needs shoring up desperately after recent rains.

We passed this magazine on our guided boat tour. I was dismayed to see how eroded the bank has become. If steps are not taken to prevent further erosion, then this unique piece of history will lost.

Only know this from the boat ride and heard the history of it. Can not really say to much more about it.
