Doing other TA reviews and stumbled upon San Jacinto. Okay, 6th Street (old Route 66) has great shops, bars, restaurants but all the streets with housing should be avoided. Boarded up houses, high crime, shootings, crack houses - I am not making this up.I was born in Amarillo. Lived in San Jacinto for 20 years and attended San Jacinto Elementary School. In fact, my relatives back in early 1900's were very instrumental in the development of San Jacinto. I have not lived in Amarillo for 40+ years but visit periodically over my 64 years.Sadly, this neighborhood has gone downhill considerably in the last 30-40 years. I would be careful where and when to visit this area. PERIOD!

There are several antique stores along 6th Street, but I think my favorite is Alley Katz. It's a big store with many vendors so there is a variety of cool, hard to find items. Loved it!

My parents were married at San Jacinto Methodist Church in 1947. This area is very dear to my heart.

We liked the look and feel of the area. It is very much repurposed for antiques and eating spots. There are some great items in the shops and we were able to find a number of items of merit.
