tripadvisorOur guide was Allen Steele, I can't say enough about his knowledge of Santa Fe and the entertaining way he presented its history to us. We met up at La Fonda On the Square, Santa Fe and walked from there to many sites. He has 2 books for sale about the history of Santa Fe, Santa Fe's Fonda and Santa Fe 1880. There was about 10 of us on the tour, we really enjoyed the knowledge he shared and his entertaining stories. Santa Fe is the oldest state capital in the US.
MoreWe learned our the walking tour from information in the Lobby of Inn of the Governors. The staff highly recommended the tour. It starts at 9:45 a.m or 1:45 a.m. from the St. Francis Hotel lobby. We called ahead but were told no reservation was required. From the St. Francis Hotel we walked to pick up another couple at the Tour office. We walked with a total of 5. The cost was $18 per person. Arlene was our guide. She was incredibly experienced and amazingly knowledgeable. The historical detail she shared gave us a deep appreciation for Santa Fe with information starting in pre-historic times, through early habitation and into conquest by the Spanish, acquisition by Mexico and ending in American conquest. Arlene took us to some great amazing local sites, including the St. Francis Cathedral, the Loretto Chapel —expected—but to other historic sites of great national and international interest—must go to learn this detail. This is an amazing way to start your stay in Santa Fe. Originally drafted 4/2019. Found draft and publishing 1/2025
MoreOur group of 4 adults wanted a private walking tour of Santa Fe that would give us not only the lay of the land but also provide historical and cultural context for our week long visit. Tomas Gallegos was one of the people recommended by a guide we had also hired for our hike in Bandelier National Monument . Tomas wowed us with his wealth of knowledge and with his true love of New Mexico and its history and culture. The tour was called sense of place I believe, and our time with him that first morning in Santa Fe truly provided exactly that. We gained a deep appreciation for New Mexico and its people and by the time our tour ended we had forged a strong connection with Santa Fe thanks to Tomas.
MoreSandy with Heritage Inspirations was excellent. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about Santa Fe and it’s architecture and history. I would highly recommend her and the tour.Jim G.
MoreArlene was a treasure trove of great stories about the history of Santa Fe. From the inhabitants of New Mexico from the beginning to the architectural history to the Manhattan Project. She also knows the great places to eat!
