tripadvisorWe took a trip there from Windham where we were staying. This is a beautiful place . It has pretty gardens there. Also you can park and explore the area around. The building itself id a college, so can't get in but the architecture is gorgeous.
MoreThe manor is not open to the public as it used for Bard administrative offices, but the small-scale adjacent Italian formal garden is a gem not to be missed. The variety and colors are impressive, and the backdrop of the Hudson and the Catskill Mountains on the other side is unbeatable.
MoreThis is a lovely place for a walk, to find a spot with an amazing view of gardens and the river to read or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. The gardens are lovely.
MoreOn the grounds of Bard College, way in the back is Blithewood Manor. While the manor is not open to public, the grounds and gardens facing the Hudson River are. The gardens were very nice and the views of the Hudson were stunning. The house is also magnificent from the outside. Parking was easy and free. If you are in the area you should stop by.
MoreSomeone told me to go see Bard College Campus and especially Blithewood or Levy Economics Institute. I am so glad I went. I am not easily enamored with many college campuses, but this one was very charming. Walking on the broad campus is easy to walk. To me, the best part of my visit was Blithewood. It sits on the bluff of the Hudson, has a garden and is a big mansion built, I think, in the 1830s. You can walk a little trail down to the water but you can see the expanse of the Hudson and the mountains on the far side of the Hudson. Great time for me to visit was an hour or two before sundown to watch the coloration changes on the land and on the river. There are adirondack chairs on the lawn for you to see and take in the great landscape. It was sooooo peaceful. Be sure to check out the small formal garden where you walk down marble stairs and an old brick pathway to get to it.
