Dr Jamal has a vast knowledge of Africans in America and so much more. He is open to questions and is unapologetically proud of his roots. I learned so much from this journey

I struggle to share the enthusiastic reviews. Mr Jamal Toure is certainly a very knowledgeable person on the history and culture of his people and I enjoyed learning that history. But I found the presentation of the material at times somewhat unprofessional and lacking structure. Simple questions were shaken off with sentences such as you believe the same wrong stuff that all the people believe instead of going deeper into the material. Also for what the tour was I think the price was outrageously high. His advantage is probably that not many people do tours on the African heritage of the city.

Jamal is not only an extraordinary historian, he also knows about such a wide variety of subjects from botany to economics concerning the African history and experience of Savannah. Learning about the real history of Savannah is difficult when other tours lie, Jamal tells the truth. This is a must for anyone wanting to avoid the whitewashed history unfortunately often given on Savannah tours. Jamal is a true gem.

We had an AMAZING experience with Jamal on our tour! Taking history tours in Savannah, sometimes guides will gloss over/omit/edit black history, and we were seeking the real history of the city from Jamal- and we got it! Jamal revealed the histories behind many of the buildings and streets surrounding us- how they had been important schools, churches, and businesses for black communities- and helped us learn about buildings still standing that had served as places to purchase people held in bondage. Jamal’s knowledge is vast- from folklore and herbal practices to economics. He’s a very thoughtful and engaged tour guide who will help you see the strong thread between past and present.

This journey was very educational with fun facts. For example, one of the monument statutes was based on our guide’s features. He is local so hearing his perspective and him knowing others throughout our walking journey was special and authentic.
