My hubby and I decided to do this on a Saturday while we were traveling for business. Donnie could not have been any more warm and inviting. She took us to so many unique Sacramento spots, showed us the local art and made sure we stuffed ourselves with some local delicacies. So glad we went. Great way to spend the afternoon. Excellent fun tour of downtown Sacramento. A bit of history, fun stories, tidbits of knowledge and great food. Dawnie, one of the owners was amazing and a fantastic tour guide!

We'd never been to Sacramento and didn't know much about the city at all. However, after a wonderfully informative, entertaining and appetite-sating three hours with our guide Dawnie, we left town with a newfound appreciation of this remarkably vibrant city. Of course, this was mainly due to Dawnie. Her love of the city is evident throughout the tour. She is as engaging a city tour guide as we've encountered, and we take these types of tours everywhere we travel. If you will be in the city for several days, I recommend taking this tour early in your stay, as she will give you countless ideas about where to eat and what to do and where to do it and how to do it. The Chamber of Commerce really ought to send her a monthly stipend, what with the genuine zeal and sincerity she promotes Sacramento.The food? Well, you will NOT leave the tour hungry. At all. Strong selections at each stop. Our favorites were a delectable pad Thai dish and a stunning ice cream sandwich at the last stop. (Trust me, it's not your standard-issue Good Humor truck ice cream sandwich...no offense to Good Humor!)Of course, between food stops you'll see countless murals done by professional artists. You'll hear fascinating stories about the neighborhood, the artists, the restaurants...it was just an awesome time. By the end of the tour, you'll feel you've found a new friend in Dawnie, who manages to combine professional expertise with a warm, engaging informality. Take the tour. It's a great afternoon.

Yesterday we did the Downtown Historical Tour with Local Roots...loved it! Our Guide, Celesta (sp?) was very knowledgable about the history of the area as well as the food we sampled and the businesses we visited. The variety of the foods and the order of our visits was well planned. Our group was small...only 4 of us...so our experience was very personal--and we enjoyed the other people! We have done several Food Tours and agree that the Guide has alot to do with the success of the tour...if you take this tour, ask for Celesta (sp?)!!

My wife and I were given a superb tour by Shelly, our Local Roots tour guide. We visited five locations, all winners. We also learned about the history of the Sutter District as we walked between locations. This is the second time we have used Local Roots, the first time being last year for their Downtown Historical Tour. We were wowed by both tours and tour guides. In fact, we revisited one of the restaurants on our own this time from last year's tour.
