tripadvisorI took this tour last year, right after I finished chemo. It can be done, in poor health, but the guide moves fast when he isn't talking, and I was out of breath at the end of the two-hour tour. The tour begins at the Court House, in front of the Civil War Monument. Every minute of the tour was filled with interesting stories and anecdotes. I certainly learned a lot. I am looking forward to doing his graveyard tour, soon, as well. There is a stop at a local restaurant across from the courthouse, where you can buy bottled water, if you haven't brought your own. There has been a few deaths/murders in the building, so you do go in the basement, as well. Everything in this building is accessed by very steep stone stairs, so this is the only portion of the tour where a scooter or wheelchair might not be able to go. I highly suggest having a drink with you, preferably water, because you will be thirsty by time you are done. The bathroom facilities here were also very clean. As a stated earlier, the tour mostly relies on the history of this amazing city, and the goings on through out the years. While we have had our share of death and grief, it's not a tour to expect to be scared out of your wits. If you are looking for that, you need to go elsewhere--though the fact that there were several hangings in the courtyard of the Courthouse does lend a sinister feel to the whole downtown area! Come, learn the history! You won't regret it!
