Cactus Wren Nest in Saguaro
Cactus Forest Drive Park ·$

Located in Saguaro National Park's eastern Rincon Mountain District, this 8-mile scenic drive treats visitors to vista after vista of Saguaro cacti. The forest of magnificent and majestic succulents is also one of the park's best kept secrets since most visitors tend to visit the western part on the other side of Tucson. The drive provides scenic outlooks where visitors can get a glimpse of what this particular desert was like before the incursion of people and the development of the city. If visitors arrive on bike, by horseback or just want to hike, Cactus Forest provides one of the best multi-use trails in all of Tucson.

This loop drive features many stunning vistas and pullouts so take your time. Get there ahead of sunset to enjoy the Saguaro forests and desert views but then stay for a spectacular sunset.

There is something magical about the area around Tucson and the Saguaro Parks and on a sunny day (and even when it is not sunny) you cannot beat a drive through the many saguaro cactus that line the roads and dot the hills. A special place and one to come back to time and again

One word...Beautiful. The variety of cactus was outstanding. Many were in bloom. I couldn't believe how lush it was.

We enjoyed the views along Cactus Forest Drive. There are some really mature saguaros on the east side of Saguaro NP. We also saw some cacti that we didn't see on the west side of the park. We allowed all afternoon to explore and stayed for sunset at Javelina Rocks, which is only about a mile from the park exit. FYI: drives on either side of the park are one way road, so take that into consideration when planning hikes.
