We read about the trails online through Trip Advisor and decided to visit. Nice trails, but confusing as they don’t indicate where you are going. There are colored markers, but it’s easy to get lost!We walked from Governor’s mansion to Menninger’s former buildings and back. Hot day in August you definitely need to bring water.

Cedar Crest is the Kansas Governor residence. Beautiful grounds, park. Walking trails are open to the public.

There are several walking trails through the woods and also down to the fishing ponds. My wife and I really enjoy the wooded walks as there are plenty of birds and critters to see.

I LOOOOVE this place! The trails are natural and the woods are beautiful! I live in Kansas City but made it out 2 weekends in a row, once with my boyfriend, the other with my son, and we went to hike this trail! My son is more of a hiker than my boyfriend is, so we made it through an entire trail and a partial of another. It was great!! We will definitely be back! :)

This is the governor's mansion for the state of Kansas. It's only open on Monday afternoons from 1 p.m. till 3:30 p.m. They have volunteer docents to take you on a tour of the first floor of the home. You can't go upstairs (family living quarters) or the basement (security detail). You can walk around the actual home itself and there is a huge acreage where you can walk the trails (suggest you wait for nice weather). It's well maintained as you would expect from a public building. There is an organization that collects donations to help maintain the furnishings and add needed details like gates, etc. The docents are very nice and can answer nearly every question you may have about the home. It's an actual home that the family lives in and feels as such. The main floor is where most of the actual entertaining occurs, hence the area where you can tour. The previous owners were of Scottish descent and there are roses and thistles all over the furnishings. There is a hidden safe in the previous owner's home office near the fireplace and it's covered by a wooden panel. On the main living room fireplace there are matching acorn shaped boxes that used to hole knives and actual look more like funeral urns. These are very rare pieces and not many exist today. The previous owner also left a huge collection of out of print books and they are in built in bookcases throughout the home. It's free to visit and while in the home you must stay with the docent or security detail provided.
