tripadvisorFriendly staff and a variety of trails for all levels! This is probably the nicest place we have ever cross county skied, highly recommend!
MoreAvid nordic skier beware - Crosscut cares more about their liberal, environmental, DEI agenda, and races than maintaining well-groomed nordic ski trails for the truly genuine nordic skier, including both classic and freestyle (skate), who simply want to get out to nordic ski. Winter of '23-24 has been awful to say the least. The few storms that have delivered a couple inches, Crosscut has demonstrated ill-timed, unprepared grooming resulting in ungroomed trails (skate skiers - how much do you enjoy skating in 4+ snow?) when if properly timed grooming could have resulted in amazing skiing. This seems to be a new shift in the organization. Over the years, Crosscut has shifted their focus from maintaining timely, reliably, beautifully groomed nordic ski trails to only grooming trails for races... or who knows what. Additionally, it seems that it is more important to them to bring latinos to the mountain to market that they are making nordic skiing affordable to diverse populations than to properly groom their ski trails. Ironically, they are unnecessarily emitting CO2 in this busing of latinos (contrary to an environmental agenda), claiming they are making nordic skiing affordable (meanwhile, nordic skiing on the Bridger Ski Foundation trails within the city is FREE and Crosscut is ~$20-30/day, season pass holders ~$500/yr for a family), and discriminating against ALL races (why isn't it free for everyone? is this contrary to a DEI agenda?). If you are looking for nicely, reliably groomed trails, first consider the Bridger Ski Foundation trails within the city of Bozeman before you donate a kidney to ski on ungroomed trails at Crosscut. If it's for financial reasons that Crosscut can't maintain reliable, well-groomed nordic ski trails, I hope they reconsider prioritizing their organizational mission and financials so that it better aligns with the needs of avid nordic skiers vs. unnecessary costs related to a liberal, environmental, DEI organization.
MoreGreat groomed trails for cross country skiing. Took a lesson and Cambria was terrific. Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
MoreAbsolutely fantastic. We tried Nordic skiing at Lone Mountain Ranch nearby and were very disappointed by the high price, poor service, and lack of COVID adherence. Crosscut blew us out of the water! The staff was incredibly helpful, took COVID precautions very seriously, and were very helpful finding skis/boots to rent while staying safe. The online reservation system worked flawlessly. Maps and signage were extremely detailed, more so than any other xc ski area I've been to, so it was very easy for us to find trails right for us, despite being new to the area. It's not a place you could really get lost. I loved all the informational signage they had about what to wear, how to get in/out of skis, proper boot fitting, etc. Lastly, we frequently ran into a ski patroller who was incredibly friendly and informative at helping us navigate and decide where to go next. All in all, don't miss this place!
MoreCrosscut Mountain Sports Center is a fabulous place to cross-country ski. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. If it is your first time at Crosscut, the staff can give you suggestions on where to ski. The trails are well groomed. You have a choice of using the regular trails for skate and classic skiing or using the narrow gage trails. The latter trails give the skier (or fat bike rider or snowshoeing) a more in the woods feel. There is not a track with the narrow gage trails. There are trails for all abilities. The trail system is well signed. Crosscut is right next to Bridger Bowl (downhill ski). Thus if your family wants to do different types of skiing, Crosscut is there for all your cross-country skiing needs.
