Zilker Metropolitan Park is one of those places that really shows off Austin at its best. It sits right along the Colorado River and somehow manages to feel both lively and laid-back at the same time. It’s also where big events like Austin City Limits Music Festival happen, so it’s a pretty iconic spot.The park is perfect for an easy outdoor day. There are plenty of flat, beginner-friendly trails, and many connect to the beautiful Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail around Lady Bird Lake—about 5.5 miles of really nice views. You can also rent kayaks or cool off at Barton Springs Pool, which is a must on a hot day.There’s a lot of open space to relax, picnic, or just enjoy the skyline, which makes it easy to spend a few hours here without getting bored.Only downside: some cyclists go really fast on the shared paths, which can feel a bit unsafe if you’re walking with kids or pets. It takes away from the otherwise chill vibe.Still, it’s a great spot overall and definitely worth a visit if you’re in Austin.

Terrific large green space in the middle of an urban area. You can kayak on Barton Creek or swim at Barton Springs Pool which has been created by natural springs. There is a botanical garden, a miniature train, sports fields, playgrounds, picnic facilities, and biking and walking trails. Zilker Park is a wonderful oasis for local city dwellers and is also worth a visit for out-of-town visitors.

Lovely spot as long as it’s not a hot day. Many places to sit, stroll and take photos. Peaceful

The path around the water is HUGE at 10 miles and offers both a lot of shade and great views of the city from the park side. It was relatively easy to find parking midday before crossing over the bridge into downtown
