This museum is little, but one of the best laid out and organized I've seen anywhere. There is much to see, read and even interact with as one wanders through the rooms of beautifully tooled and well-used saddles, model wagon mess setups, bridles and bits, and Native American history. And there is more to come - a recent donation of 30 authentic stagecoaches and wagons, restoration of a train station and other plans to make this hamlet a destination for families and history buffs. The museum provides an authentic look at the Head west young man era of the 1800's. I make the hour trip from Boise to attend the annual workshop on life in the Wild West, and it was worth every minute of the drive and the sessions . From authentic rifles used by legendary bandits, to typical dress in the frontier, stories of heroes and villains, and more, this was a well-planned and shared history by locals who love their research and history.

We went on a Mother's Day outing to Murphy and Oreana with the grandkids. For a small town, the museum was really well done and informative! And there is no entrance fee, just a suggested donation ($5 per person or $20 for a family). The docent was very kind and helpful as well. The grandkids especially enjoyed the interactive mine shaft, vintage school room and kitchen. The highlight of the day was when the volunteer demonstrated the player piano for us. We enjoyed a picnic lunch out back at the table under a tree, and then drove down to the neat old Catholic church and cemetery in Oreana, which was about a 12-minute drive from the museum. It was an enjoyable, memorable day!

Excellent displays, wonderful collections and well worth the drive. Historical relevant displays donated by very generous people. One would not expect this very well done museum in such a small town.
