**A Completely Unacceptable Hotel Experience — Sleep Inn, Nampa, Idaho**We stayed at the Sleep Inn in Nampa, Idaho, for two nights, September 18 and 19, 2026. We selected this hotel because we are Choice Hotels members, it was pet-friendly, and it was conveniently located near the venue where we were attending a friend's 50th wedding anniversary celebration.Unfortunately, this turned into one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. Before getting to the serious problems with our room, there were several issues with the property itself. We were on the west end of the hotel on the ground floor, approximately three doors from the exterior exit. The two doors at that exit slam shut unless someone physically holds them. I can only imagine how disruptive that must be for guests staying in the rooms immediately adjacent to those doors.Directly outside that same exit is an outdoor cigarette receptacle and smoking area. Anyone entering or leaving through that door can immediately be exposed to cigarette smoke from people standing only a few feet from the entrance. I do not know what Idaho regulations require regarding smoking distances from hotel entrances, but locating a smoking area immediately outside a commonly used guest entrance certainly does nothing to improve the experience. The hallways were dark and smelled musty. Our room also lacked adequate convenient lighting, in the toilet area and in the shower but especially next to the beds. The overall condition of the property gave us the distinct impression that maintenance was not receiving the attention it required.Unfortunately, those issues were minor compared with what happened inside our room.At approximately 9:30 p.m. on our first night, the bathroom door came completely off its track. That meant we no longer had a functioning bathroom door or any privacy while using the toilet. Rather than sharing an experience no married couple should have to share, we walked to the lobby area and used the hotel's public restroom. It was inconvenient, but we figured we could deal with it until morning and ask the front desk to have the door repaired. Then things got considerably worse. My wife had taken a shower shortly after we initially arrived. The following morning, when she went to shower again, she discovered water leaking into our shower from the dim light above. We assumed it was coming from the bathroom in the room directly above ours.Neither of us was willing to stand under water leaking from another guest's bathroom. At that point, we effectively had a hotel room where we could not privately use the toilet and could not safely or comfortably use the shower. In other words, I was paying for little more than a bed while using a public restroom and going without a shower.I documented the problems with video and photographs, including the leaking shower and the bathroom door off its track.I went to the front desk, explained everything, and attempted to check out. I was told that because of the hotel's 48-hour cancellation policy, the front desk could not refund our second night, compensate us for what had happened, or offer us another room. I was told I would need to contact the regional manager.I immediately called the number provided for Thomas Mitchell. There was no answer, so I left a message. I called again at approximately 12:30 p.m. Idaho time and left another message.A few minutes later, Mr. Mitchell returned my call.During that conversation, he acknowledged that he had personally seen both the bathroom door off its track and the water leaking into the shower. He told me the door had been repaired and that the drain in the upstairs bathroom had been sealed in an attempt to stop the leak.He also told me that he would compensate us for the room for one night. Based on those representations, we agreed to return to the hotel.Had we not been facing the possibility of losing the money for our second night because of the cancellation policy, I would have moved to another hotel without hesitation. When we returned, the room had been partially serviced. The bathroom had been cleaned, fresh towels had been provided, and the garbage had been emptied, although the beds had not been touched.I checked the bathroom door and confirmed that it was working. I also checked the shower and did not see water dripping at that time. We unloaded our belongings and our dog and settled back into the room. The following morning, I got up, walked the dog, returned her to the room, and went to the breakfast area to get some scrambled eggs for her and a cup of coffee for myself. When I returned, my wife told me that the shower was leaking from above again. Once again, we could not shower. At that point, I could not get out of that hotel fast enough. We packed our belongings, loaded the dog and luggage, and checked out. Then came the final insult. When I reviewed our receipt, I discovered that the compensation offered by the regional manager amounted to nothing more than removing the pet charges.Let me be perfectly clear: **the dog was the only member of our family who had absolutely no problem with the accommodations! **She uses the outdoors to relieve herself and does not require a hotel shower.Removing the pet fee as compensation for two adults being unable to properly use their bathroom or shower was not meaningful compensation. Given what we experienced, I considered it dismissive and insulting. The hotel had documented maintenance failures involving two of the most fundamental functions of any hotel room: **a private, functioning bathroom and a usable shower.** Management knew about the problems. The regional manager personally witnessed them. One of the problems returned the very next morning after supposedly being repaired.Yet the ultimate response was to remove the charge for our dog? That tells me a great deal about how this property and its management view customer service.I will never recommend this Sleep Inn. When someone asks me about the worst hotel experience I have had while traveling, this stay will immediately come to mind.I am extremely disappointed not only by the physical condition of the room, but even more so by the lack of a meaningful effort by management to compensate us for accommodations that failed to provide basic bathroom privacy and reliable shower facilities.Everything described in this review is based on what my wife and I personally experienced during our September 18–19 2026 stay. I have photographs and video documenting the bathroom door and leaking shower. If you are considering staying at the Sleep Inn in Nampa, Idaho, I strongly suggest you carefully consider this experience before making your reservation.

I have stayed at hundreds of hotels during approximately 50+ years of business and pleasure travels. Occasionally, my situation changes, and I need to extend, or shorten a booked stay. Every time, these hotels have done their best to accommodate my needs, until this one.I originally booked a room for four nights. After the first two nights, it became necessary for me to go home a day early. This hotel was booked through Travelocity. They (the hotel desk clerk) told me they wouldn’t change the booking, that only Travelocity could. I called Travelocity. They tried to help me, but the hotel refused to change. A Travelocity supervisor even called the hotel and asked them to shorten the booking by one night, but they refused.Otherwise factors, good and bad. The hotel is very noisy. It is right up against the freeway on one side, and an active metal recycling/junkyard on the other. Constant noise.Bathroom was clean. Water pressure good, bed and pillows comfortable. Room refer worked well. Carpet worn and dirty. HVAC easy to control but noisy when it kicks on. Parking lot easy to fit big vehicles.I normally stay at nicer hotels, but because my wife wasn’t with me, I took a chance. Never again wi this place,
