The Ellipse Park

Nestled just south of the White House, The Ellipse, also known as President's Park South, is a 52-acre haven of green, encircled by an oval trail. The park is home to a number of monuments, including the famous Ellipse Meridian Stone. The Ellipse is often used as a gathering place for large public events, including the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and the Fourth of July fireworks display. You can enjoy strolling through the park, picnicking on its lawns, or simply enjoying the scenic views of the surrounding landmarks. The park is particularly charming during the spring and summer months, when the trees are in full bloom, creating a picturesque landscape. However, it's worth noting that due to its proximity to the White House, security measures may be in place during certain times, so it's best to check for any closures or restrictions before visiting.

The Ellipse Park – This park impressed me with its openness and tranquility, even though it is located very close to the White House. It feels airy and spacious, making it ideal for a walk or a break on the grass. I like that it is not overcrowded and offers space to simply be and take in the surroundings in peace. Unfortunately, the park is currently not accessible due to security reasons.

It's a green space in front of the White House, some park land that sets off the perspective of the executive mansion. From a town planning perspective, it has some value. But otherwise it is just a green space.

We were in DC for 5 days and the park was closed off the entire time, with the surrounding streets closed intermittently. The officers said it could open, but it sure looked like the closure was long term.

The Ellipse is the green space between the National Mall and the White House. It is the site of the National Christmas Tree every winter. The north end of The Ellipse offers a great view of the back of the White House

A great place to walk round, very relaxing. There are so many Police around, you feel very safe, even at night. Very clean and tidy.
