tripadvisorStopped by Glide Memorial Church on a business trip afternoon. The community outreach they do is impressive and the atmosphere felt pretty open. The music was catchy too you can tell it’s a lively place but not too flashy. Worth a visit if you want something different in SF.
MoreVery important church that is fundamental to the delivery of social services to those in need as well as spiritual uplift. Long the home of great leaders in the community. Wonderful place. And the church is a lovely building.
MoreWhenever we are in S.F. over a Sunday morning, we try to attend services at this joyful. open and inclusive church. It is inspiring to see such a diverse group worshiping together and serving the community. The music is really something special, and don't sneak out the back and miss the message, which is often a combination of scripture, poetry and inspiration.
MoreWhen I first checked into the hotel, I specifically asked about Glide UMC as it's just a few blocks from Parc 55 Hilton Hotel. The young woman who checked me in advised me the church has a well-known Pastor who brings in a number of celebrities when they are in town. She also stated that the church has a huge community outreach program and the congregants are an eclectic bunch.I opted to go to another church, but as I was walking to catch my shared ride (I passed by) I noticed there was a plethora of cars (doubled-parked) in front of the church. I could hear the music and it did sound inviting however, because I was late for the service and in all white as it was the First Sunday, I opted to continue to Bethel AME.After church, I had the opportunity to question some people who attended the service and they advised me that the service was uplifting and the music exceptional.Next time, I know where I will fellowship when in SF.
MoreAn important cultural and political institution, but also an important part of the faith landscape. Lots of social programs. Lively services.
