tripadvisorWe stopped by this historic site/museum for their current exhibit, open til November 1. Rest Stops and Reckonings puts new works by local artist Brandon Clark into the framework of the Green Book, the guide used by African American travelers during the 20th century. The works are beautifully installed, creating an almost immersive experience. While there give yourself time to view the What Remains exhibit by Julie Levesque.
MoreA hidden gem that should be on everyone's radar when visiting Miami. If you are overnighting in Miami and have a few hours, this historic and superbly renovated museum is a short drive or bus ride from the airport. The museum can only be visited with a docent which explains the significance of the site.
MoreThis Historic Hampton House is an example of living history. I recommend that if you live here, get on their mailing list and keep up with changes in exhibitions and programs as they happen. The historic rooms are static as they continue to tell the stories of this signification place in Miami. The exhibits change several times a year, most notibly during December Art Week, when remarkable artwork is brought in for a few months. They are starting to hold the periodic jazz nights when the space where world-famous musicians performed. These are a realy treat to attend.
MoreGet a piece of Miami's history. One of Miami's newest museums captures the time period. As well as preserving the stories of the past, current efforts are to bring fine art to the community. It's interesting to see you the place is evolving and creating its identity. This was the location featured in the drama and movie - One Night in Miami.
MoreWe are students who went for a Black history tour, and it was our favorite place we visited. The rooms were impressive and authentic. It was interesting to learn about the history of some of the most influential Black figures. The tour guide was very knowledgable about the history of the hotel and and interesting facts like where MLK paced rehearsing his I have a dream.. speech.
