tripadvisorThis is a pleasant and quiet place for a country walk. Your ability to see birds will vary depending on the season and time of day. When driving on the road near the refuge keep an eye out on the surrounding farmland. We happened to notice a flock of heron hanging out in an orchard. That was more entertaining than the birds we saw at the refuge. One of the paths follows an attractive strip of riparian woodland.
MoreA spectacular place, especially in winter months when it is visited by sandhill cranes, Aleutian cackling geese, and other large migrating birds. A couple of picnic tables are available, and pit/composting toilets. Trail maps give no indication of distances, so we ended up walking somewhat further than we'd planned.
MoreBeautiful place for people who love nature. I use to hike there at least twice a week and always have a great time watching nature, specially in spring.
MoreAs a person with mobility challenges (I use a rolling walker), I count on trail maps to help me assess how much I can do. We thought this first part if trail on lower left off photo was a loop. It was not. We are still not clear where it was. My teen niece and I enjoyed our walk, about a mile round trip, back and forth, seeing many glossy ibis, stilts, common yellow throat, quail, ducks, and more. Love to go again. Gravel was ok for walker. Need better map.
MoreA nice wildlife refuge with long trails and a great amount of wildlife. Somewhat remote and not crowded. Enjoyable walking for peace and quiet. There are benches along the trails as well as picnic tables.
