A museum , how people lived centuries ago. The materials used to insulate, to heat, to cook, to sleep on. Interesting.

Local history of the area. Great for families and especially small children. Exhibits interactive and conveniently located in the center of downtown Rye. Free admission and worth a visit, if you are in the area. It is located next to the local library nd part of an historic walk path around the area. Nice way to spend an informative hour about the area.

Our entire family (kids, parents, grandparents) enjoys going to the Square House in Rye, NY. They have fun hands-on things for the kids to do and wonderful local history for the whole family to enjoy. It's an active museum that hosts many exhibits that are always professionally done. It's a small museum, but very well run and interesting if you like American, New York and Westchester history. And yes, George Washington actually spent the night here, for real! Check it out online to see their programs, they have lots of fun things for the kids to do. If you are a history buff, this is the place for you!

The Square House is a superb museum and a wonderful place to discover Rye, NY's history. The house used to be a Tavern, and the front room accurately depicts what a Colonial bar used to look like. (There are actual bars that can be lowered to keep the ale and rum safe and this is why we call modern taverns bars. Who knew?). Upstairs they have temporary exhibits showing off the Rye Historical Society's fascinating collection artifacts and documents from their archives. The current exhibit is about Immigration in Rye. Small, but lovingly curated. It's a great spot to spend an hour or so, and there are hands-on exhibits for kids. I'll definitely go back again.

Fantastic museum that both shows the building as it was during the colonial time period and has rotating exhibits connecting Rye's history to American history in general.
