This park embanked on the Providence River offers residents of College Hill and people from the nearby superior court a place to escape from the tumult. Its highlight is the World War Memorial, a 150-foot obelisk built from Rhode Island granite in 1929. The carved stone edifice stands majestically over the river and atop it sits a statuette of Victory. There are inscriptions that quote from famous Americans like Ralph Waldo Emerson and Abraham Lincoln along with a frieze that honors Providence citizens. Today the park is a great spot to walk along the greenway and enjoy the panorama of downtown over the river.

tripadvisorBeautiful park commemorating WWII. The fall leaves were in full display. The park has several plaques describing each battle of the war as well as a list of those from Providence who fought/died in the war. It was particularly interesting to me as I have family who fought in the war and am familiar with many stories of that period of time in our country’s history.
MoreI’m an advocate for the remembrance of military sacrifices and I think this park serves justice for that purpose. It’s noticeable that the Vietnam War is not included. I always like the way World War 2 is mostly symbolized with the timeline and major events. Conversely to The Wall, it makes everyone feel included. My father had friends killed in Vietnam and I feel very included when I visit. What about those sacrifices where soldiers didn’t die and have their name on The Wall? In this case, here in Providence, I was happy to see the Pacific Theater in remembrance of my maternal grandfather’s sacrifices. This park is a nice place to visit and contemplate everything that our military service members do for us on a daily basis. We should thank our service members in uniform, for their service.
MoreVery sad to see the homeless gathering en masse, but I've seen much worse and despair of things getting better.
MoreVery nice small park with interesting memorials. The lovely, historical buildings surrounding the northern side are worth taking pictures and investigating their past. I enjoyed this short walk in the park.
MoreThis is a great historic park adjacent to Providence’s financial district and its historic College Hill district. There’s plenty of heritage buildings to explore in the immediate vicinity, and you can follow the riverwalk to WaterPlace Park or other places in the city. One of many nice parks in the city to rest in while you’re walking around, and a good place to appreciate the many war veterans for whom this park is named.
