Built in 1929, the Great Arizona Puppet Theater now resides inside a former church in Downtown Phoenix. The building was deemed a National Register of Historic Place in the early 1970s and also underwent a substantial renovation in 1996 before opening up as a performance space. The former halls, chapels and rooms now serve a multitude of purposes, from puppet construction to birthday party rooms. Children, families and adults come for quality entertainment year round, from local puppeteers and national touring acts. Theater productions change regularly, showcasing both classic tales and new exciting stories. Children as young as two years old are mesmerized by these engaging, kid-friendly shows. If you're looking for field trip or birthday party ideas in Phoenix, consider the Great Arizona Puppet Theater! Our private party room allows kids to make their own puppets and put on a show using their new creations. Our puppet theater is not just for kids! We also feature adult puppet slams for those ages 18+. These shows can be funny, edgy or even scary, so you can be prepared for a fun night full of surprises! Our historic theater is located in Downtown Phoenix, overlooking Margaret T. Hance Park, just north of Roosevelt at 302 W Latham St. Check out our event calendar for upcoming shows or book your next event with us today!

tripadvisorA very home-made sort of a place, with a wonderful little one hour show that was sweet, full of songs, and kept the preschoolers captivated. This is not a laser-light show or a fancy Broadway locale - it's a sweet little church with a well-created puppet show that was just the right length and engagement for our 4.5 year old. A lovely respite in a vacation that can be filled with over stimulation!
MoreWe attended this past weekend's Adult Puppet Slam. There was a wide diversity in the stories told at this show. As always, Daisy the Kitten was a charming and gracious hostess and Jingle the Cat was an interesting addition. Pineapple Shake was a fun bit, and this weekend's headliner did not disappoint. We were amazed by Phillip Huber's pieces. His marionette performances were mesmerizing and he truly breathes life into his craft. It was an honor to see his performances in person. Kudos to the Great Arizona Puppet Theater for bringing in a world recognized talent.
MoreTwelve youngish seniors went for the adult puppet slam. It was creative and different! You can buy tickets at the door for $12. or order them ahead for $10. The theater is in an old Mormon church, a cool old building. You can buy a beer or wine. Yes, it's pretty low-tech, but what on earth do you think you would get for the price? Most of the skits were very clever -- a dog made out of a folding ruler; a cowboy and his gay horse; the astronaut landing on the moon. The cat who emceed was difficult to hear -- in fact, quite a bit of it was hard to hear. But it was a fun night! Definitely not for children!!
MoreTook 3 grand children ages 7, 7, & 8, all girls. They're very tech savy, so wasn't sure how they'd enjoy this. We had a great few hours in downtown. The original buildings are incredible; the theater itself is a renovated Mormon church. If you go look at the incredible ceiling. I remember old Punch & Judy shows with handheld puppets. These were marionettes. One woman did 4 characters very well. Looking round there were kids of all ages, who seemed to enjoy the show. Prices for adults 10.00 Kids 7.00 are not out of line for a live show. They can make free paper hand puppets before or after the show. We got the kids each a marionette for 12.00 ea. This is a non profit, in a great area with free parking. The people who were working appeared to love their craft. Expect a kids show, not a Broadway production and you won't be disappointed. Kids practiced with their Marionettes in the car; by the time we got home they had it perfected, and put on a show. Much better than them using: Entertain Me. electronics. Thy'd like to go again next month.
MoreCould not and would not recommend it. Overpriced at the low price. Totally un- funny and not at all adult. Did I hear one swear word? Will never attend again.
