tripadvisorFor the culture vultures, The Warehouse is now how you can see the Howard and Cindy Rachofsky collection of contemporary art now that they have closed their Richard Meier house to public access. They have more than more than 800 pieces and have been highly influential in the Dallas art collector scene. When they pledged their collection to the Dallas Museum of Art, Jack Lane, the director of the DMA at the time, told the New York Times, “It changes the future of this museum and makes it one of the most important centers for contemporary art in North America.”The exhibit we saw was For What It’s Worth: Value Systems in Art since 1960, which includes a lot of pieces that push you to really think about art, its place, its value. I didn't recognize a lot of the artist names, but that's okay--the art was great. It's definitely a place you can return to, so I'm looking forward to visiting again when I'm in town. Access is free, but you have to make reservations. The building is a non-descript warehouse, except if you look a little closer, the materials are a little nicer and it's tidier than you'd expect. The staff are friendly and helpful and happy to talk to you about the art if you have questions.
