Nice old time theater with great customer service. In downtown Tempe next to an abundance of eating and other activities. Showing documentories not shown elsewhere.

This is a historic theatre built in 1940 by Dwight 'Red Harkins as the College Theatre and has some character and great that it still operates. Harkins Theatres are now a major theatre company in the US from this small beginning.

There is only one place in Tempe, Arizona where you can hope to watch Japanese anime movies in Nihongo with proper English subtitles and that is Harkins Theatres' Valley Art. I like that they are included in the promotions of anime movies when they give out commemorative items for early viewers. For the three Kizumonogatari (傷物語) films, I watched all of them here at Valley Art. The inside of the movie theatre itself is not that big, but the seats are very comfortable. Both the picture and sound quality of the movies that I have watched here are very good. Built in 1940, I have read that this location is currently Arizona's oldest movie theatre. Valley Art is located along Mill Avenue near some of the Arizona State University (ASU) buildings. I normally park in faraway ASU Lot 59 and I don’t think it is easy to find parking places around Mill Avenue. Since they are on Mill Avenue, there are lots of restaurants to go to before and after watching a movie. This place is my lifesaver for the Kizumonogatari (傷物語) anime movies. I am extremely grateful that this place is up and running.
