If you are looking to add some rare books and authors to your collection or a title you can't find in regular stores, give this place a try. Starting out as a small worker-owned business, Changing Hands Bookstore has now expanded and keeps books for all ages and eclectic tastes. The bookstore also holds regular book-signings by famous authors so keep an eye out on their Twitter and Facebook pages. There is a small, in-house cafe which serves food and drinks, so you can enjoy your book over gourmet snacks and beer. This bookstore also purchases used books from customers.

tripadvisorIf you like thoughtful, well-made gifts, and a beautiful selection of books you will love this place. The sections are quiet and well-decorated with plenty of seating scattered about. I saw teenagers engrossed in reading and a huge children’s section, I saw seniors meeting friends right at opening time. ❤️I’ve been here several times and I cannot say enough about the quality plus excellent customer service. AND there’s a restaurant and bakery called Wildflower attached with outdoor seating next to the bargain book display. A young man named Charles helped me today. He was so relaxed and kind when he offered to run around the store for me and locate items I didn’t have the strength to get. I signed up for the loyalty program because I’m loyal now. I will never again buy a book online and hope everyone remembers to shop local this year.
MoreChanging Hands is an Arizona institution. It started on Mill Avenue and, at that time, was the kind of place a romantic book lover could linger for hours: lots of nooks and places to sit, plenty of used versions right next to new versions (before electronic), and a prime location next to ASU. Due to the gentrification of Mill Avenue, Changing Hands had to move. The corner they chose must be reached by car, but it's still a fantastic and fun store, plus it's on a great corner. Start at Wildflower Cafe (another Arizona institution right next door) for lunch, and then spend a lovely few hours browsing all the delights at Changing Hands. Shop at Trader Joe's if you need some grocery items, and then pick up dinner to take home at Pei Wei across the street. There's also a PetsMart in the Changing Hands complex and a PetCo across the street, both of which display adoptable cats and other pets to visit.
MoreI have been a shopper at this store for YEARS (since they were on Mill Ave) and have always loved it. The customer service my 18 year old son received today bordered on harassment. My son had a question about a book (politely asked about it) and the store associate was judgmental and rude. For a store which preaches diversity and acceptance to all I am astounded how they treated him
MoreThis is a very unique bookstore. They offer author meetings, readings, and story times for children. It's wonderfully laid out and even sells unique gifts.
MoreA great selection of books, artsy item, and items that would make great gifts for everyone from mom to grandma. I love this store!
