Reviews
tripadvisorI am very late getting my reviews done, from 3 trips we were on last year. Firstly, this place can be tricky to get into by car. I passed by the driveway on Scottsdale Rd, twice and on my third attempt, of going around the block and trying it again, I gave up, and parked in a lot in the back area, near other place. The driveway is hard to see, and is narrow to get in to. I didn't see any other cars in their lot. When I entered the store, I told an employee, and she stated that she hears that problem of getting into the driveway several times by other people! The City wouldn't/won't allow them a larger, more defined sign for people to get into the lot...restrictions re. signage! Anyway, my main reason for coming here, was to get a date milkshake, and look thru the store first. When I ordered the shake and the employee started to make it, she yelled to another employee in another area, How many dates go into the shake? Two, was the response. But, when I left the store, and tried it while driving along, the taste just wasn't there for me. Too bad, as I was so looking forward to having a date shake once again after so long. Compared to decades ago, when my mom and I each got a date shake, south of Palm Springs area (Indio?), at a date ranch, and those shakes were thick and full of date bits...so tasty and wow! But here, it just didn't cut it for me! I know others have enjoyed them here, but maybe it was their first try, or maybe they never tried the ones from where I had one before. Sorry, but it wasn't worth the money for a vanilla ice cream shake, with little date taste! The store was very clean, bright and organized nicely tho.
MoreThis was the most amazing shake ever. They only offer one kind, and I know why. Delicious. Also some really good locally made products. Bought some dates too which are delicious.
MoreAfter touring the Fiesta Bowl museum, we stopped in here for a date shake, being the off season, the shelves were pretty bare. (I actually was looking for some Black sphynx dates but had read in AZ. Highways magazine where this past summer had been very hard on them (Rain, rain, & mold). I also knew that we were off season and that they went FAST! (There's always next year. Anyway, we stopped and ordered a couple of date shakes to enjoy out on their patio. I would have to say that we did find them enjoyable! Prices of all items were a little higher than I expected (after shopping the competition but, I realized that we were in Scottsdale) As I had stated, we were stopping/shopping during the off-season. I'll give this place another try next year
MoreThis little stores sell dates, chocolates and a few local products. The dates are amazing — nothing like the package goods at the grocery store. If you are a date lover, you have to try these. You can sample before you buy.
MoreI don't really like milkshake but the date milkshake was super addictive and delish. The staff was really friendly and allowed us to sample a couple of dates as well as explaining the type of dates and how it grows. The shop also sells wine, snacks and many interesting but pricey prickly pear related items like nectar, syrup, jelly and tea.
