Built in 1927, the Temple of Music and Art is a proper cultural arts venue. Constructed in an elegant, Southwestern style, the Temple breathes grace and class with its beautiful surroundings of cobbled stone, fountain–splashed patio, and quiet tree-lined street. Now home of the Arizona Theatre Company, the spacious Alice Holsclaw Theatre with its 623 seats is a marvelous place to see either Shakespeare or concerts. If a smaller, more intimate setting is desired for a performance, upstairs the Temple has the Cabaret Theatre available.

tripadvisorThe talented people performing Blues in the Night deserve a large round of applause for their fine performances. Super talented. And the stage personnel and support crew, etc., are equally amazing. However, the content of the show itself... well, for one, it has NOTHING to do with the blues. So if you think you're going to see a tribute to some of the legendary blues music and performers of all time, that is not the case. And two, this is Branson-bus-tour type of entertainment, not that there's anything wrong with that, but not what I expected for $100 ticket (or maybe even a nursing-home in-Branson type of show). It's cutesy for that crowd and again super talented folks on stage but the show and songs are cheesy. For example, Down-home Song and Dance Revue may have been a better title for the show. Left at the intermission... and sitting next to at least half a bottle of Walgreen's finest women's fragrance didn't help either. But if you're into AquaNet, this might be the show for you. My biggest issue -- to repeat -- was it had nothing to do with the blues. The crew is talented, though. (Side note: the theater is amazing... a true gem).
MoreCurrent play Dial M for Murder is well done and entertaining. Street parking never seems to be a problem. Many people get drinks at the connected cafe. Makes for an enjoyable evening.

MoreNot knowing this theater, we purchased a season subscription (we have done this for many, many years). The seats we selected are not able to view any action that occurs on stage right. We asked for a change but were only told what ATC is UNABLE to do, explaining nothing else is possible. So we shall discard the remainder of this year's tickets, not subscribe in the future and adjust our estate plan accordingly. What a damn shame!
MoreI have gone to three plays now, this season, at ATC. It's a wonderful historic building, excellent often thought provoking plays well-acted, and a wonderful gem in Tucson. I highly recommend the AZ Theatre Company.
