Buffalo Exchange Thrift Store ·$$

Since its conception in 1974, this establishment has grown from a little Tucson resale house to a Southwestern clothing empire with an environmental touch. It's not just a used clothing store, rather a place where hip customers look for the most current styles. There are new clothes here as well including scarves, belts, shoes, jewelry and handbags. It's a place that sells, buys and trades in a discriminating and socially conscious way. The Tokens for Bags Program raises money for several environmental organizations.

I trade with them often and am happy with the staff and their friendliness. They get to know you by name if you are frequent in there. Sure, most I bring in is not bought but I do not expect that. I always go for the trade as it is more than cash. I save it all up for school clothes for grandkids…. I have no problem at Buffalo exchange and not sure why others cut it down…. To make a friend you gotta be a friend!

We have one in Denver and it is a cult, I will confirm the previous reviewers opinion. You’re either in or out...but it is definitely a cult. Nice quality resale stuff...fun, funky and great for raves....so my kids tell me!

While researching used/vintage clothing stores prior to visiting Tucson, I thought I had an ‘aha!’ moment. My ‘aha!’ moment turned into an ‘uh oh’ moment upon actually paying the Buffalo Exchange a visit. My first disappointment was the lack of interesting, unique items, save for a very few. Secondly, I found the prices to be appallingly high with most things tagged at over $20.00 (for used, mediocre stuff, ..really?). Finally, many items were not even clean (gross!). I was happy to leave empty-handed, unlike many folks who filled their arms with would-be purchases. Some websites indicate a huge following for this place. Go figure.

You see, this isn't really a shop. It's a cult in disguise. While having all kinds of beliefs is everybody's right, shoving them down your customers' throats is not. Buffalo Exchange does not believe in bags. They hand you the clothes, which may be many and/or heavy, assuming you'll place them in your pockets, assuming you have any that is. Oh, and you get a cute token for it, along with a recited speech about saving the planet. As George Carlin said, had the planet had any problem with us, it would shake us like fleas! The planet has been around for eons before Buffalo Exchange was and will be around long after Buffalo Exchange goes down the drain, which it inevitably will, since they couldn't make it even around the bums downtown. If they're soooo concerned about the planet, why can't they have paper bags, as many other stores do?! Aaaww, I suppose they can't hurt trees, either, can they?! Well, if they're such bleeding hearts, why don't they give the stuff away?! But, nooo... they're actually one of the greediest second-hand shops in town. I don't know why I bothered setting foot there again... While it is possible to find interesting clothes, this sort of experience is not fun in my book.
