tripadvisorI really enjoyed my visit to Hirshorn last September. The rounded structure of the building allowed for a unique presentation of several pieces, and the Laurie Anderson exhibit was incredible. This probably isn't my favorite Smithsonian but it is well worth a visit!
MoreMuseum exhibits its own collection “Revolutions” that includes among others Matisse, Mondrian, Kandinsky, Picasso, Pollock. 50 new works are added since the beginning of 2025.Don’t miss the current “Banksy-Basquiat” ending in October. Can’t believe I watched it paying $0.Osgemeos Pandolfo brother is wrapped up. Happy to share some pics here. It is so urban and so fantastic at the same time, hopefully it returns (#WharholFoundation, pls-pls-pls).Adam Pendelton / Mark Bradford / Laurie Anderson ongoing ones are definitely worth your time. It is a great place to come alone, or with a friend, or with a few friends, or for a date. No need to understand everything at once. Approach with open mind, take time to reflect. Come during less crowded time in the mornings. Gift Shop is good, similar to all Smithsonians.
MoreWe adored this museum! What a fantastic collection of interesting and unique art. From the outside we knew we'd love it - there's a giant Yayoi Kusama gourd in the garden and other interesting sculptures. We loved seeing artists work that we've never heard of before. The space is also really great - a sphere with a hollow core, so there is a nice flow to your exploration. Hard to get lost ;)
MoreYikes! It was under construction, I think. The outside felt abandoned, and uninviting. Inside was a confusing mess. We went up to the special exhibit and it was frightening. The installation was overpowering, and depressing so we just left the floor. Museum felt warm and airless, so we headed back to the mall. It was not the Hirschon museum I remembered fro 10 years ago.
MoreI'm not at all adverse to modern art and have seen many inspiring or fascinating examples across North America and Europe. Whoever is curating here and I must be on a different wavelength. Nothing here stirred my soul and almost nothing here made me want to linger or study further. It's not a huge collection worthy of the Smithsonian and much of what's there is either bizarre or just bland.
