Found a great parking spot right downtown...but guess what...the pay-by-website-only app won't let you input an out-of-USA credit card...we could not input our Canadian credit card to pay ($5), nor was there ANY option to pay otherwise...so we went and had 1 beer at the hotel...of course we were ticketed ($25) immediately by someone surveilling us...this is an old mining town, very cool, but don't NICKEL and dime visitors because you are NOT in the modern age and do ALLOW people to pay with out-of-country credit cards via an app that reflects the MODERN world--or with good old cash. My Canadian VISA worked just fine for parking in Slovenia for heaven's sake...get in the game, Jerome, don't invite people all of the world to visit, then pull a low-class stunt like this....

A ghost town in the desert, really. A town that’s population all but disappeared when the town’s copper mining industry went bust has again come alive. Designated as a National Historic Landmark Jerome, Arizona consists of formerly vacant buildings that now house boutiques, gift shops, antique and craft shops, the town also has five art galleries, a library, three parks and two museums, including the Mine Museum run by the Jerome Historical Society. A truly unique reuse of buildings you can tell stood from the late 1800’s. While many of the town’s structures have stood the test of time some have perished. The United Verde open pit mine on the edge of town along with 88 miles of mine shafts under Jerome have caused a number of structures to slide gradually down hill to their present, some precarious locations, some crumbling under the weight of gravity.The town is now a tourist destination of some historical interest. Stores that line Main and Clark Streets carry unique items many with the Southwestern flare so prevalent of the area. The view from Jerome of the adjacent Verde Valley, below from the staggering 5000 feet elevation is impressive to say the least. Worth at least a couple to three hours visit on your way to or from the Sedona area, roughly 100 miles north of Phoenix or half hours’ drive from Sedona Arizona.

I guess it's one of those places that people tell you to visit because it is unique. But personally I don't know that I will ever go back, and I chime to AZ every year. Specialty shops and decent places to eat, but the roads in and out can make a person car sick. And their parking policy left a bad taste in my mouth. I was by myself looking for a place to park, trying to pay attention to the one-ways and pedestrians. As I looped around the town I found myself heading back out of town, but to my right I saw a spot. Little did I know it was for residents only. When I got back to my car I had a 25.00 parking ticket. Of course my mistake was not reading the fine print before leaving or I could have received a 50% discount! Oh boy. Regardless, it was not well marked, the sign was not easily visible to see by myself. I guess they have a pretty easy way to make money for the town taking advantage of first time visitors. I wish I would have read some of the other reviews concerning this before I went. I would, however, recommend the Clinkscale to eat. Service was great and so was the food.

A fun Historic Ghost Town with typical tourist shops and restaurants. Parking is just crazy! The city needs to do something ASAP.
