While they certainly have the cowboy' art you would expect, the exhibits were more diverse, including a national pastels competition when I was there. Not a huge place but big enough to be worth a stop for art enthusiasts.

We were visiting friends in Prescott, and this was a nice couple of hours.I'd never heard of George Phippen before, but he was evidently quite an influential figure on Western Art & History.$10 admission each for us Seniors also seemed just about right. Worth a visit!

September 2024 is my most recent visit to the Phippen, but I have been going there for at least six years. Just want to give credit where credit is due because the Phippen is such a gem of a Western Art and History museum.Since I am a bit of an Old West Historian and I do love the Prescott area, the Phippen was a must-see for me and I instantly fell in love with the museum. It is small compared to other Western Museums like the Autry in L.A. and the Western Spirit in Scottsdale, but it is mighty. Three exhibit rooms, the main one includes their most recent collection and a rodeo room featuring items and photographs from famed movie cowboy Tom Mix and rodeo champ-John Wayne sidekick Ben Johnson, plus an art room featuring studios of the Phippen namesake George Phippen, who was a founder of the Cowboy Artists of America and Solon Borglum, who sculpted the famed Buckey O'Neill statue that is in front of the court house in downtown Prescott. Downstairs there's another gallery and a room where members and students can make their own art. Lectures are usually presented there. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Phippen Store that features Western History books, Native American Jewelry, sculptures and prints, cards and yes, a rarity these days - Western theme wrapping paper. If you are enthralled by the spirit of the West, if you love old and contemporary Western Art and Sculpture, and if you plan to visit Prescott, the Phippen, just located 7 miles north of the downtown area on Highway 89 is a must-see.

Very interesting themed art museum. Full of western themed artwork. It was very cool to see everything. Downstairs there is a space for kids to do a kids art workshop. We got there too early, but it looked like it would be very fun for kids
