Reviews
tripadvisorThe Inn itself was nice. Room was clean. My experience was with a clerk on duty the night we checked in. My husband and I were speaking to each other about a different hotel we were going to stay at, but when we got there they had no Wi-Fi so we found this place San Mateo Inn. While my husband and I were talking about this other hotel and the clerk was supposed to be checking us in, he all of a sudden said to us “If you give me a F…… minute I’ll give you the password for the Wi-Fi.” Well first off, we were not even talking to him or asking him anything, but he found it necessary to cuss at us for no reason. The stay would have been nice, but his words just stunned me. I’ve never been spoken to like that from a clerk!!!!! I’ve sent a review to the hotel, but no one has done anything about it. Again, the Inn itself was nice, but be careful because they will cuss you out for no reason. Will never stay here again simply because of that one clerk!!!!!!!!
MoreFirst, the good news. At least to the extent that anything about staying here is “good.” The positive is that the location is an easy on/off Interstate 40. Now . . .The photo of the entrance makes the property look inviting. But when a guest walks through that front entrance into the reception area, what’s noticeable is an odor of cleaning agent and/or room freshener that is overwhelming. Obviously, they are trying to mask the smell of something! Not good. Don’t worry about having breakfast in this area while whiffing a stench because breakfast is not offered. The mats outside the room doors are ratty and many are ripped. The property should just throw them out., as they create a bad suggestion of what might be inside. The carpet in the room I occupied was dirty, as were the sheets and one pillow case. The items looked to have such wear that I’d guess they can’t be properly cleaned. Everything in the room and bathroom is very old and way beyond its useful life. The shower water was barely hot enough for a comfortable shower. The ice machine may make ice but it does not dispense it, so assistance from the front desk is necessary to scoop out the ice. In terms of “overnight experience,” the worst factor is that this place is NOISY. San Matteo is a busy street and the drivers are wizzing by all night. The sound of the traffic awakened my wife and me throughout the night.Albuquerque is suffering from a sizable population of people without homes living on the streets . Many of them are in the area of this property. Accordingly, everything is locked almost all the time. In this area, even the restaurants lock the rest rooms INSIDE the restaurant! If you walk to a nearby restaurant, you are likely to be pan-handled.Move on . . .
MoreFor the money, IT CAN’T BE BEAT! OK, if you judge this place against the Four Seasons, you are ignorant. This is a budget-conscious motel that goes above and beyond its peers. Chocolates were left on the bed for us. Room was immaculately clean. Even the cheap coffee maker was clean and that never happens. Mattresses were comfy. Room smelled good. It had a fridge, microwave and hairdryer. A++ If you are on a tight budget but want to feel safe and comfy, GO HERE!
MoreThe only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the location. With that being said the owners have done a WONDERFUL job of keeping the grounds safe. We felt safe in parking lot and in our room. Our room was very nice and clean. Updated to a mountain country feel. Staff at front desk very kind. Affordable rates. We would totally stay here again. Left this morning safe and rested for the rest of our travels. Thank you guys for being part of our relocation adventure and being there for us to rest our heads!
MoreUpon entering the room. it looks nice, clean and newer. The problem I had with the room was lack of power outlets. We had an extension cord, but if you don't you will have problems. The bathroom is very small. It was nice to have no carpeting, but it was a pain as we were on the 1st floor and the creaking of the people upstairs was annoying. The walls are pretty thin too.We overlooked the breakfast option thinking every hotel does it....nope not this one. For $4 more a night more we could have got breakfast at a different place. That was our mistake, but just take note.
