Garcia Street Books is a cornerstone community bookstore, owned and operated by a local couple who used to run one of the biggest independent store chains in Canada. They specialize in books about Santa Fe, collectibles, and artists' books. Their "Readings and Conversations" series has attracted several high-profile authors, including Margaret Atwood and Seamus Heaney, in addition to film stars like Jane Fonda and Shirley MacLaine. Visit the coffee shop next door and stop in here for a leisurely morning. Then go for a stroll up art mecca Canyon Road, located just around the corner, and check out the galleries.

tripadvisorSuch a lovely bookstore. It stocks many wonderful books on Santa Fe, even one that's hard to find: Santa Fe Then and Now by Sheila Morand. This book features photos of downtown Santa Fe from the 1880s to 1920s with a comparative recent photo. Take your own walking tour with it!
MoreIndependent book-sellers are a dying breed, and in need of support by the community. They offer unique offerings, support local economies and are a point of resistance against the corporate cloning of places. It is amazing given the pressure on independent book shops that his place survives. It's terrible. It has everything going for it - a stellar location next to a cafe on the posh east side, a public all-too-willing to support such book shops, of which there are several in Santa Fe, and a nice, light shop space. But there are almost no books in the shop. All books are placed front-cover faced out, which is the least space-efficient way to display books. Even then, they aren't able to fill up the shelves. The books are of dubious interest. A waste even of the 5 minutes I spent in there.
MoreMy wife and I fell in love with this place. Great selection of books and some comfortable areas to browse. The owner, Jean, was very helpful and friendly. If we lived in Santa Fe, we would be here all the time.
MoreNot your run of the mill bookstore and thank the heavens. Interesting books, artwork and more. The unique postcards, cards and more will be anyone's exceptional find. Worth the time to find and explore.
MoreNear Canyon Road and tucked in on Garcia Street next to Downtown Subscription Coffee Bar which is great too. Regional topics to world geopolitics and diverse eclectic selection including kids books. It is a “no miss” on every Santa Fe trip for us.
