Here’s a tighter version that keeps the key details and reads well as a review:I walked into the gallery in Santa Fe because I was captivated by several paintings I saw from the street. The Gallery Director—a gentleman with striking gray hair and cowboy boots—was speaking with a white family, so I patiently waited until they finished. When he finally spoke with me, I excitedly said I was interested in the artist’s work and technique. I mentioned that I’m an artist myself and was considering purchasing the Butch Cassidy piece for my husband. His response was, “I don’t know the technique. I’m just the Gallery Director.”That was surprising because I had just listened to him spend several minutes enthusiastically explaining that very artist’s techniques to the family before me.Then, without asking if I wanted to see a piece or if he could help me, he simply turned around and walked away.I’ve purchased art for years, and my own work has been exhibited in museums and galleries. Gallery directors usually are happy to talk about an artist they are representing and they should treat every visitor with basic respect and engage with people who show genuine interest in the artists. I left feeling unwelcome, disappointed, and wondering whether I had been judged by the color of my skin.

Our outing to this gallery was amazing. Mr. Montoya was highly knowledgeable about the history of the artist and their work. This could not have gone any better and learning about each artist and the media used to create their art was memorizing. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to learn from you and we greatly appreciate the time you gave us.

On our annual road trip to Santa Fe, we like to stop in Zuger. There are two artists who catch our eye and we enjoy seeing their artwork. One artist is Nash who makes wonderful clay sculptures of African people. The sculptures are life size and feel rich with color and expression. The other artist is Chan who does leather sculptures of Asian people. His sculptures and extremely detailed and he has really worked the leather to look like a clay. Fantastic! There are many other Western oriented paintings and sculptures to enjoy.

Located across from the Plaza, this is s nice gallery with contemporary and western art. You will find paintings, leather artwork, and clay sculptures. We especially like the full sized African inspired artwork by Nash. Parking can be a challenge. There is metered parking as well as a parking lot in the vicinity.

We had just seen Gib Singleton's amazing statues at the Basilica of St. Francis Prayer Garden and stumbled upon his gallery. We were blown away by the power of his sculpture and paintings. We spent a wonderful thirty minutes taking in his work. This was like a free museum. I especially like his religious pieces. His work is accessible (not abstract) and has strong realistic with religious themes obviously inspired by his Santa Fe culture. I also liked his paintings with bison and horses as his haunting subjects.
