Hyde Memorial State Park is located in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains, just a few miles outside of Santa Fe. A serene setting, dense pine plantations, and smooth accessibility make it one of the most frequented picnic areas of the region. The state park also serves as a tranquil spot for camping, ice-skating, and hiking. Campers and hikers use the park as a starting point to explore the unique topography of the enveloping national forest area. While touring the park, one can also spot a number of wildlife species like porcupine, squirrels, fox, and coyote.

tripadvisorWe were looking for a nice two-hour day hike in the park. This park is clearly geared towards camping, NOT day-hikes. The entrance visitor center was closed. The day fee was $10 (which you drop in a box). Parking was minimal, and the trails were not well marked, and overgrown. Lots of great camping sites, but not that interesting for a hike during the day. We were disappointed in the experience.
MoreLots of great trails to hike, however much of the trails NEED WORK they are over grown and bridges are broken. They have plenty of picnic areas & pit toilet options at trail heads & camp grounds. The campground has a great host but unfortunately a lot of the sites are closed at the moment as well as the dump station, & no water must bring your own. Sadly we stopped at the visitor center for information on where to get water or to dump & it was closed too! The information board had basic info but nothing on water/dump. The campground is along side a busy road with lots of trucks going back and forth due to road repairs.
MoreThis park is very close to Santa Fe - it's about a 20 minute drive from downtown. Go from standard desert views to mountain views! I walked around the lodge a bit and on a couple of trails. Very nice. Need a park pass.
MoreGreat place to hike and see beautiful outdoors. Views are wonderful and there are many trails. We loved the waterfall trail. There are camp grounds and restrooms if needed.
MoreThere was no rain when we reached Hyde Memorial State Park and its beautiful lodge. We paid $5 entrance fee, parked the car, got detailed instructions from the most helpful ranger, Carol, at the visitor center and the minute we were ready for a hike, the cold drizzle has started and the temperature dropped to 43F. Oh, no… it wasn’t even drizzle, it was a hint of snow. We made a wise decision to continue driving and return to the hikes on the way back. When we reached Hyde Memorial State Park, there was no rain and we embarked on the East Circle Trail hike to the waterfall, which is easier than the West Circle Trail. The trail was a disappointment: it is just a path in the woods (we had done hundreds of similar hikes)., plus the stones were slippery and it was pretty hard to balance crossing the brook in three places. We walked for a mile out and back and decided to turn back to Santa Fe.
