I wrote a review several years ago and felt the need to do some updating. First off this is still the best listening room / bar in the state. The owners are always in attendance during live music shows to show their support for the artist and the audience. The staff is very professional and strive to make the best drinks and deliver them with a smile. This grand old building is split into two sections with a listening room in front that seats about 40 and a traditional type bar in the back. This is a nonsmoking bar but they do have a covered porch and a very nice wood deck out front with chairs. They occasionally have shows outside when the weather is nice. The weekends now feature mostly blues and blues rock artist but they do have an occasional country and rock band. The audience is a melting pot of races and ages but mostly consist of retirement aged people. I have never seen any trouble in this bar and I have probably been there over 100 times. They do have some of the best open mikes in the area on most Sundays and at least once during the week. Green Oaks also features some Americana, Folk, and Jazz artist on week day nights along with the aforementioned types of music. They serve some food that will do in a pinch but it is recommended to eat beforehand. They mostly have local artist but they have some regulars from Dallas and Louisiana and occasionally someone will pop in from Chicago, Seattle or some other out of state location. This is as close to listening to live music in your own living room as it gets and it is better as someone else is getting up and bringing you drinks. Weekends especially may require a reservation for the front room. The drinks are cold and made to order, the room is always temperature friendly, and it is as clean as most hospitals They have a great website with up-to-date shows posted so check them out and get there as quick as you can. Tell them Dennis sent you!

This is a definite hidden gem in downtown Humble. My wife does not want me to tell anyone about it because it is becoming one of our favorite date places. It is a quaint little tavern in a building built just under 100 years ago. The building has served as a firehouse (I was told) and a courthouse with jail cells. The bartender that was working both times we visited is very courteous, and he has worked there for several years (including under the previous owners). The bar hosts live music almost every night. They cater to small, unknown bands. This past Tuesday they had a great blues harmonica player and singer from my home state of New Jersey. I love listening to music in small venues like this, especially when you get to meet and interact with the musicians. Definitely worth a visit, but don't spread the word too far because we like that it has not been crowded the few times we have visited.Another great thing about the bar is that it is smoke free. One minor con is that there is limited parking in the lot, but I think that the 2-hour Humble parking limits are suspended at night. Lastly, the music is free during the week, but they do charge a cover on the weekends. Still worth it, though.

My wife and I made our first visit to Green Oaks yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed The Dave Scher Trio show. The club's owners welcomed us as soon as we walked in to make us feel at home. Angie and Joe provided great service and the regulars were very friendly. This place used to allow smoking but they apparently stopped that a couple of years ago. We had also heard the place was really cramped but we found it to have plenty of seating and room to move around. Dave Scher really showed his skill with the electric guitar and does a great job of bending classic songs from Hendrix to Tom Petty into his own style/arrangements. The sound and volume were just right. Would love to see them add some craft beers to their menu but they are doing a lot of things right at this place.
