The Nevada Historical Society Museum and Bookstore located on the University of Reno, Nevada campus, is easy to access with open parking spaces not generally found on the University proper for visitors. There are interesting displays in the various rooms which pertain to different aspects of the history and culture of the region. There is a beautiful display of woven basketry along with information about the various Native American peoples (Washoe and Paiute) who inhabited the area. Other topics covered are the silver and gold mining booms and the history of Sin City casinos and quick divorces. More savory is the history of the Reno Philharmonic and growth of the University.

They have a nice collection of state and local historically significant items in their collection, and it's definitely worth the small admission fee if you want to experience a little of the area's history. The old slot machine collection was probably the most unique part of the exhibit.

This was a small place but had a lot of information. If you're interested in mint coins, come here. Also they had a really cool ghost town set up, with a trip into a mine (fake). Really worth the time.
