tripadvisorThis museum is up on the hill above the Main Street. It is an attractive building and you really can't miss it. Inside you will find artifacts from the Nineteenth Century and the era and the silver and gold rushes.
MoreExcellent venue for the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy show. It is a comfortable venue that is beautifully decorated in historic style. I recommend checking out the show and or the Opera House.
MoreMy date is NOT November 2023…it was in2008 My mother and I was contacted by Fox and asked to spend the night alone with camera crew. This was 2008, it was fun . I am a Psychic medium since birth. What I experienced was lots of children, running around, also the manager back in the day would smoke up a storm , well he was still smoking, like he just lit up. Standing at his door watching everyone…lol…Also a man hung himself in the attic. What I didn’t know was that the Chinese that lived in ( I guess you would call it a basement ) they were all on opium, it was an opium den, at the same time the operas were going on.
MorePiper's Opera House hosted famous stars from the United States and Europe in the 1880s. In wealthy Virginia City, it was the place to be seen.Still in use today this old building, which is filled with historical photos, art work, and furniture, hosts a variety of performances, including concerts and plays. It can be rented for weddings and private parties, too. My husband and I were lucky enough to tour the Opera House while visiting Virginia CIty. Although we were the only two on the tour, our guide Renee gave us a through rundown on the building's history. It was fascinating to consider the bawdy behavior that occurred within those walls (especially among the rich miner owners and the prostitutes who dallied behind closed curtains in the box seats overlooking the stage). At the end of the tour, I asked if the building was haunted. Renee's eyes lit up and the stories unfolded. Yes, that building has it's share of spirits! And many people who tour it have experienced them. Fortunately, the spirits steered clear of us! But we left with a a newfound knowledge about Virginia City.
MoreIn a small town full of history, this big building stands out and you will definitely notice it. If possible, take a tour.
