We stayed at this Hotel for 5 nights. Found the hotel to be very dated. This was the first thing we noticed. Second thing was that it took the bellboys 40 mins to get our bags to the rooms travelling a distance which took us 5 mins. Pros: LocationCons: Uncomfortable Beds, Very Old Hotel with a Tiny pool, Service was very average, breakfast service was pool and the food quality was just average. Problems: You have to pay $50 per set of sun beds which was very odd for me given that we were at a beach resort . On top of that it is practically impossible to get a booking even on a paid basis because rather than have people come and go as they please on the sun beds ( generally one can't bake in the sun for more than 2-3 hours) , because people pay $50 they have the beds for the entire day and there are not enough beds for everyone specially because the sheraton guests are there as well! This seems to be the norm on Waikiki beach which was absurd to me! In summary this hotel has allot of hype around it because of it is one of the original hotels on Waikiki but I would not recommend this Hotel as a 5 star hotel. Not by international standards anyway. The critics have got this one wrong or looked the other way!!Only stay here if you are paying %30-40 less than the other 5 star options. Otherwise try your luck elsewhere.

I have stayed at this hotel approximately 14 times since 1984 It is a Oasis in the middle of tourist activity of Waikiki Exceptional grounds and gardens..Very peaceful. The service is always exceptional and the staff so friendly The cocktails and beachside dining so worth the experience A amazing location for breakfast and drinks in the evening It is like a home away from home and should be visited regularly

It's cheap at $60/night, but I stayed at a much nicer place in San Diego for $63/night. I would not stay here again. It's horrible. There wasn't even a water glass in the bathroom. If I had looked at the room before registering, I would have found a way to get my van out of the insanely cramped parking lot even though I was exhausted from trying to find my way around this miserable part of California.

Driving solo around LA at night having failed to pre-book accommodation. Stumbled upon The Royal Hawaiian, and stopped to check if there were rooms available, as it was getting late. Hmmmm. The warning signs were there (bars on the reception window, signs saying no drugs and prostitutes allowed, etc), but I was alone in LA, and I decided to take a walk on the wild side and stay the night. The reception guy was friendly - maybe a little too friendly?? I entered my room and found one entire wall covered in mirror tiles - it was more than a little creepy. The room smelt like stale cigarette smoke. I turned on the TV and was a little shocked that the station was showing pretty hard core pornography, so I turned off the TV and went to sleep. Had this creepy feeling that I was being watched the whole time I was at the hotel, including in the grubby bathroom. Couldn't leave fast enough the next morning.
