Surprisingly, it's not easy to find gourmet Mexican in the City of Angels. Here's one place, however, that serves up high-quality food with an accent on fruits of the sea. The crowds flock to this Westside branch of the East L.A. original (La Serenata de Garibaldi) for the shrimp quesadillas, fish enchiladas and a seviche that's delicious. The owners take reservations, but the place is usually full if you go there on impulse, so be prepared to wait. It's worth it, even the salsas are out of this world.

yelpSuch a hidden gem, even though it's been open for decades! The side patio is such a nice place to have a few beers and relax. Food is excellent, and the key lime pie was the best I've ever had.
