The train ride and view were amazing. The staff was all super friendly, and the food was both delicious and reasonably priced, all in all. I think it was a great deal!

This was such an incredible experience. The train ride was comfortable, the seated dining was very good, and the scenery was gorgeous. The staff from start to finish was friendly and helpful and made everything run smoothly. Truly an unforgettable trip.

Endless panoramic views for 12 hours, 359 miles of pure mountain range, gulches, valleys and snow and moose!!!Absolutely love love loved it!!!! A must do!!!

We took our trip on 27 Dec 2025. The northbound train in the winter is only available on Saturday, the southbound train is only available on Sunday. There is only one class of service on the train, the seats were roomy but have no upgrades since built, no tray tables, food rests, seat back pocets and most importantly-power. There is nowhere to plug in on the train. We left Anchorage at 8am, the trip was 12 hours which meant that a portable charger for cell phone and laptop was absolutely necessary. Negatives for the trip: we checked our bags and had no access to them (and more clothing). The train was exceptionally cold on the floor, mainly due to the external temperatures...-5F in Anchorage when we left, -40F in Fairbanks when we arrived. Bring warm shoes/boots multiple layers, socks and maybe a blanket. The check-in process was a cluster. They announced boarding of the entire train and EVERYBODY crouded the two places to get on the train. There was no organize boarding even though everyone had assigned seats. Anchorage train station was small and was lacking in the space needed to house all the passengers. Overhead bin space was limited. Take small carry ons. When we arrived in Fairbanks, it took about 45 minutes to get all the bags due to the limited personnel available to bring the bags from the train to the baggage area. We were on a train with an usual number of foreign tourists, who knew nothing of personal space. They crouded the baggage counter and prevented people behind them from seeing if their bags had arrived. Once again, a cluster, no organization. The foreign tourists also did not keep the doors closed between cars so the cold weather crept in (they couldn't read the signs in english?}. No internet and phone service was spotty, about 2-3 hours total time with service in the 12-hr journey--bring cards or other travel games, or your own movies. Good things: The sights out the window were amazing. We had good weather, clear skies, the Denali range and mountain peaks were completely visible from base to peak. The staff was very knowledgeable about all the things we passed by. The train slowed during times when picture taking was desired. Dinning was good, we chose to eat breakfast and dinner. Staff again, very pleasant. I compare the food to a Denny's or Red Robin. We had burgers, one with beef and the other with chicken breast served with a side of chips. Dinner was $25 with a drink and tip, and breakfast was $20 with juice and tip. Alcoholic drinks were $12-$20 each. All in all, a good trip. Alaska Railroad does a good job with what they have, but could use some updates. A better boarding process and baggage delivery, heat and some power outlets for recharging needed on the trains. Their staff was phenominal, smiles and good narration of the sights we saw out the window--worth the money.

Train ride was comfortable for an 11.5 hour passage through Denali state park and more. Staff was knowledgeable as we passed historic sites. The sunshine provided a glistening show as we passed Alaska’s wilderness. Way to go if you need to get from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Way to see the mountains and landscapes if you don’t want to drive or ride in a tour van. Food and drinks available for purchase. We went during off season, so not too many traveling, everyone could travel between cars.
