Stay here one night, booked through our cruise line. We arrived on the property about 9:15 am, after leaving our home at 1:30 am. We asked if we could check early desk said for $75, we said that would be fine. He then informed us that he didnt have a room. But would let us know as soon as a room opened up. After about an hour we needed to get something to eat. The Hotel's restaurant only serves a breakfast buffet at a cost $28 per person, no ala carte. Their bar doesn't open until 4:30 pm and offers drinks and smaller plates, new menu available. So we went to Starbucks down the street. When we returned more people had arrived from the cruise line. Around 1:30 pm they started giving rooms out. Soon we were the only ones left in the lobby, about 3 pm another clerk came and asked if we were waiting for a cab. We said no were had been waiting for a room. They requested a credit for a $100 deposit. Upon check out, the clerk took the key and said thank you. I asked if they would email me a receipt and was told yes. It took a follow up email a few days later to get the receipt and their was the breakfast charge but nothing on the statement about a $100 deposit. We were given a room key on the 3rd floor which faced the noisey street. About 4:30 pm we decided on getting something to eat. The desk gave us a list of near restaurants but none seemed to be open. So we settled for Subway, we know there was a issue when the check out girl had to unlock the beverage cooler to give us our drinks. We chose to take our food back to our room after running the gauntlet of homeless in the street and around Subway. The breakfast that we paid a high price is no better than any of the other chain hotels that offer it free. We also bought 2 bottles of smart water for $17. I have issues with over charging for something we have paid less than $5 in a store. While this property itself is nice and well maintained. It is the little things that matter. We have stayed at Hiltons in many different States. Must be a California thing I guess.

Good service, people are professional and friendly. The room are very confortable, clean and mine big (1011). Good silence. But the breakfast is way to expensive for what it is. Product not fresh. Good thing there is an extremely good café just across the street.

We were met at the hotel entrance by two scruffy dressed members of staff in blue T Shirts blocking the hotel entrance. So not a good first impression. This is sadly not a welcoming hotel. The lady that checked us in who claimed to be the manager but was not wearing a hotel badge so she could have been anyone was borderline rude as she wanted her own way about anything I requested. Her full focus on check in was to get a $100 deposit on a credit card which I was told was to safe guard them if I wrecked the room which I would never do and not sure a $100 would do much for them. I gave them the money but they refused to give me a receipt for the payment. In the room there are warning signs even in front of the hotel TV about tipping, smoking in the room and $300 charges if you smoke. We don’t smoke but they could easily say you did.As stated above I personally found the lady that checked me in was bordering on being rude and was not welcoming. The hotel was very quiet and didn’t see many other guests. My understanding is it’s used by cruise ship guests. The room itself was very outdated and most of the furniture was damaged. The TV was a large LG TV. The picture quality was good. The air conditioning was excellent and so was the WiFi. Plenty of electrical power sockets and USB each side of the bed but the power cut in and out and my phone kept disconnecting from the power socket.I didn’t spend my Hilton Diamond My Way $36 benefits as wasn’t confident the room charge would be refunded. I apparently was supposed to be charged a $25 destination fee to spend in the hotel but that was never mentioned. The bathroom lighting was very poor and the shower was over a bath rather than a separate shower cabinet which i prefer. The water pressure in the basin and shower was poor but at least the water was hot. The taps in the basin were also loose. This hotel just wasn’t for me even if the staff had been friendly I just didn’t feel happy the minute I entered the building. The view from my room was a big wall so I could not see the city. For people that like the old fashioned style of hotel they may love it but for me even taking this into account the staff were not friendly or welcoming. As stated the hotel has some positives, like excellent TV and air conditioning but it’s spoilt by the staff I encountered on this one night stay who are too focused on credit cards in my opinion than making sure the guests are happy. The area is also not the safest and lots drug dealers and people taking drugs in the door ways. It’s very close to skid row so not surprising. Finally holds can take with some banks 30 to 42 days before the hold drops off especially if using a debit card. The only way to get the funds back quickly is for the hotel to hard charge the card for $100 then refund the card a few minutes later but many hotels refuse to do that. When your in the hospitality business you have to focus on guest satisfaction and not on credit cards and her insinuation that the money was taken if I smash up the room which I would never do. Hotels need to be flexible and treat each guest as an individual. They also need to be upfront and transparent about how much they want on hold before you even make the reservation.

Not going to pretend that I am happy with this stay. My room wasn’t even close to being ready on time and the front desk lady just shrugged her shoulders like we don’t guarantee anything. Strike 1I get to my room and it was a journey into the Shining. Room 2013, 2014, random door, random door, random door, , finally found my room. Now where is the light in this creepy room? At least I paid for the upgrade. I can put my slippers on and start to unwind. Of course there are no Hilton slippers when I expected to use Hilton slippers. Ugh … strike 2At least I can enjoy the view while it rains. *Opens up the curtains to reveal a gray wall when I specifically requested a top floor room so I can at least see the city but I got STUCK WITH A 2nd floor room* Strike 3!!!! The valet service was polite and helpful. Did not meet my expectations. There’s literally nothing I would recommend about this hotel.

My stay was short but the front desk staff and the valet gentlemen on the night of the 1st of September, were amazing. I will definitely be coming back!
