tripadvisorI decided to stop for a quick look before visiting Mount Hope Cemetery across the street. Worth a few pictures and the sunken garden is cool for a few minutes of walk around. Nothing major but it's close to the entrance to the cemetery.
MoreI hate to mark it POOR but even though the information I found online said it was open, it was closed for construction. I was very disappointed and would not have made the trip there is I had known there was nothing to see.
MoreWarner Castle is located in Highland Park and sits atop an elevated site, overlooking Mt. Hope Avenue. It was originally built in 1854 by Horatio Gates Warner under the supervision of architect Merwin Austin and was modeled after the ancestral castle of the Scottish Clan Douglas and is constructed of locally quarried limestone. The next owner replaced an old barn at the rear of the property with the Sunken Gardens, designed by Alling DeForest, Rochester’s most acclaimed landscape architect during the first half of the 20th century. While the castle is converting to offices, the gardens in back are open for people to walk through. The upper gardens contain some beautiful flowers and the sunken garden is a beautifully designed area and a great place for a picnic, reading a book or just relaxing.
