We went there in early December, no mosquito and we spotted gators in the pond, hawks on trees and green herons in a 1.5 miles hiking. We didn’t even enter the loop of the Trail.

Our first visit. It’s about 40 mins drive from old Naples and easy to find and park. There are two portable loos at the trail head and nothing else so beware and ‘go before you go’! The various trails are easy to find with clear mile markers. Take plenty of water. Apart from a few benches there are no other facilities on the trails. During our 5 mile hike we saw the following Black and Turkey Vultures high up in the trees at the entrance to the boardwalk. This was swiftly followed on leaving the boardwalk for the grassy trail by a beautiful and playful otter in all its glory, and shortly after two gorgeous Pileated Woodpeckers. Already entranced, we also sighted Red Shouldered Hawks, Anhinga, Great Egret, White Ibis, Great and Little Blue Herons. And finally, one Alligator. Thoroughly enjoyed our morning and would return.

Am amazing, flat, trail - mostly in the sun -with lots to see. The loop trail is 12 miles, so if you are planning to complete the loop, make sure to be prepared for the sun, and bring plenty of water & food. We saw several alligators on or near the trail, and we gingerly walked around them and they, obviously, left us alone. We saw lots of birds on the drive to the trail and near the parking lot, not so many on the trail. There are two clean port-a-potty's at the parking lot.

Stopped here after being disappointed at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. We pulled in the parking area and saw 3 birds instantly; while driving here we saw several birds also. Lots of reptiles. Some birds. . People were biking; but need fat tire bikes. Mostly in the sun so bring water. Have good shoes on your feet. Have a great time and be respectful of the size of that alligator when he is sunning.
