I will start with the negative of this hidden gem (I met a person who had lived in St. Paul for twenty years and did not know it existed). This park is within a mile of a large St. Paul park but you would not know it. It looks on the outside like an abandoned lot. There is graffiti of various people and possibly gangs on the outhouse and on the sandstone. There are abandoned clothes and other signs of that humans having lived here, signs that this is isolated and not well policed. At the same time, it is a place of hope. According to Wikipedia, it became a city park around 2004 and it is named after a member of the House of Representatives. There are volunteers that are converting this from an area that was mostly invasive species to a place of olden days. It is place that has a tour that can be done with your phone. It is a place according to the city web site has area that is sacred to the Dakota people. There is a cave on the premise. It has 450 million year old sand stone and lime stone bluffs. It does not go down to the Mississippi River due to the trains but that is on the wish list. I also do not believe I saw it all but what I saw was beautiful. I also believe during the day this is a safe place to walk, I saw others out here.
