Our neighbors with a park seasonal pass invited me to a morning hike at the El Dorado Park, located practically alongside the 605 freeway with traffic zooming by. It felt like stepping into another world past the entrance to this sanctuary. The calming, serene environment was a welcoming break from the city bustle and humdrum routine. How wonderful to have a nature park within minutes from our home. Our leisurely walk along the easy 2-mile trek on this beautiful morning with clear blue sky truly showcased Southern Californian living with its great weather and easy access to a wide multitude of outdoor activities.

The El Dorado Nature Center is a great place to just come out, enjoy what nature has to offer. You have the option to do a 1 mile trail or 2 mile trail. Not that many switchbacks, the trails are for the most part flat with a few up hills but nothing drastic. For the time that you are out there, you may forget that you are in an urban City. Nature is all around you, lakes, streams, a great place for taking pictures of nature, or just to admire. Having a rough day or just a need a day out, take a couple of hours and just take a hike....

A quiet and serene getaway in the middle of a busy urban area. L.A. is full of surprises, but this quiet park is truly one of the hidden gems. Only reachable by car and you have to pay for parking, but the entry is free. The center is beautiful with abundant wildlife (birds, turtles, etc.), 2 lakes and an abundance of trees and hiking paths. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours. If you are in the area and miss nature, this is a must do.
