Steamboat Hot Springs Healing Center & Spa
Steamboat Hotsprings Healing Center & Spa Day Spa ·$$

This is the oldest known site for continuous hot spring activity producing surface mineral deposits in the world today. The spa dates back to the Virginia City mining days, when Dr. Edna Carver used these healing waters and operated this famous therapeutic center from 1909 to 1954. The hot springs have since been registered as a National Historical Site. Pamper yourself in one of the private geothermal steam rooms, or sit and relax in one of the spas where the water temperature can be adjusted to please each client. There are several therapeutic services available to augment your spa visit, including Swedish massage, aromatherapy, sports, Thai or traditional Japanese massages. Maybe you would like a mud body wrap using special herbs, which claim to help your body lose inches. Whatever your needs are, they can be met at this healing and therapeutic spa. Reservations are recommended.

We have been going here for years and loved it until this last visit and now I will never go back. We have only ever paid $16 a person for the outdoor pool, which we have done many times before and it always comes out to $32 for two people in the outside pool. This time, we made an appointment and when we arrived, the cashier told us it would be $70!!!! She said they increased the cost to $35 a person from $16!!! I didn't bring any more cash than what I thought we were going to pay, since we had no idea that they had increased their prices. We explained this to her and the girl was very rude and condescending about it. She told us that we were unable to cancel at this point and we could use the outside tub or not, but would be charged for it on our card if we couldn't pay in person with cash. She also told us that it was higher because the prices were weekend prices... but it was a Friday... Then, she said that they always send a confirmation text that includes the price. I pulled up the confirmation text without the price to show her that we never received anything with the new, increased prices in it... So, she then said, I don't know what kind of technical difficulties you are having with your phones. Twice, she stated that she could discount it slightly to prevent me from panicking, before she finally just took all of the cash I had brought, which was more than we used to pay and allowed us to use the outdoor tub. When she had explained they increased the prices, she said that they had made a lot of upgrades, which would account for such a high increase in prices. Apparently, they added a cold plunge. That's great for someone who wants to use it, but that's not why we go there. Otherwise, the deck was painted, but the pool was not pouring hot water until over 30 minutes after we arrived, the railing to enter and exit the pool is so loose that you can't use it, they used to have hot tea, but the hot water dispenser wasn't turned on and after she embarrassed us unbelievably with zero discretion, we weren't going to ask her for any other help. I will never go back there again. I understand if there was a price increase, but I think someone should have mentioned that before we arrived and the way that she spoke to us was embarrassing and I wouldn't want anyone to feel that way, so I will never return there. I'm very sad and disappointed to lose a place that was once so wonderful to locals...

Wow! What a hidden gem on the edge of town. We had a soak in the natural hot spring water and a couples massage and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The tub was comfortable and relaxing. The massage therapists were some of the best we have ever had. The entire place was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. We would highly recommend a visit!

I called to ask about getting a 1 hr massage and also a 1/2 hour mineral bath that day. I had never been to this place so I asked questions about the different services and pricing. I was happy to know that they had availability, that my combined services would be packaged to $165 (including a CBD lotion). I was asked me to give my credit card info to secure my appointment. I got off the phone at 1:05pm, was told my drive in would be about 25 minutes from my location and to come on over so I would start with the 1/2 mineral bath soak and then go to my 1hr massage. I got to the spaat precisely 1:30pm and was greeted by a lady at the desk who had me fill out two forms one with a lengthy medical/ info questionnaire. This took me about 15 minutes to complete. Then the same lady escorts me to the private tub room and runs the mineral water giving me a bunch of instructions on what to do with the hot and cold water valves and tells me that when my 1/2 hour soak is done I’ll get a tap on the door from the masseuse. It took around 10-11 minutes for the tub to fill. I barely got into the tub for the soak - maybe 3 minutes and I get a knock on the door from the masseuse telling me to get going because it’s 2:00pm and my massage time is running. I politely explained to him through the door that I just got into the tub, can I first get my 1/2 hour soak. He then says he’ll call the manager and about 3 minutes later a lady comes to the door. I explain my concern and in a nasty tone she said reluctantly “look, we’ll comp u for the first tub soak and you can return for your soak after the massage and will be charged for that 1/2 hour soak”. The masseuse then let’s me know I’m only getting a 50 minute massage, NOT the full 1 hour. I was upset about that and asked if he could please give me the full hour because none of this was my fault. He said sorry but no because he runs on a tight schedule. He gave me the massage but only 50 minutes. I was very stressed out at this point. When I finished my 1/2 hr mineral soak after the massage, I came to the front desk where another woman was now sitting in order to finalize payment. I politely explained the circumstances, that I was legitimately upset at what had happened and did not think I should have been unilaterally shortchanged by losing 10 minutes off my 1hr massage. She then advised me that I owe $170.00 and that I was comped for the first so-called soak which really never happened as explained above. I was shocked. I explained that I was only supposed to be charged $165 and now not only wasn’t I getting a credit for the 10 minutes they unilaterally cut out of my 1hr massage, I was now also being up charged by $5.00. I then said I had no intention of paying the full $170 charge. All she responded was that I should fill out a complaint form (which I did) and that I should have gotten to the spa earlier to do the paperwork. She then falsely claimed that I was late and was told to come earlier to fill out paperwork which was an utter lie. She then got obnoxious with me asking me to leave - “step outside now sir, I’m calling a manager”. In a passive aggressive manner, she falsely accused me of raising my voice - I never once raised my voice. I stepped outside into the parking area waiting for the manager. The manager who was the same lady who came to the door when I was supposed to be having my 1/2 hour soak came huffing and puffing barely allowing me to speak, talking over me. I tried to explain my side of things thinking she would be reasonable. No such thing! She could care less about what I had to say and then falsely claimed that I said I wasn’t going to pay anything at all. In vein, i tried to explain that this was not so - I was just looking for a proper adjustment. She ignored me and said she was charging me the full $170. I then went into my car, called my credit card company to object to the full charge. As I was doing that, the mgr came out and said she was calling the police on me because I was loitering on her private property (parking lot).

We're working our way around Western Hot springs and finally made it here. It's historic and pretty unique. We think it's one of the few commercial springs that give you access to super hot water, so if that's your thing, this place is for you! Of course you self regulate your tub temp. The receptionist was so nice in getting us set up with our private tub and explaining things. We were there without an appointment, but I'd suggest you make one ahead of time. Great water,a shower in each room, not clothing optional if going to the one outdoor tub. Reasonably priced, we'll be back.

The mineral soak was great. The massage was beyond awful. The technician agreed to wear a mask, but groaned, sighed, huffed and puffed through the massage, which was very poorly done. Massage definitely not worth the price. Beyond unprofessional. Strongly recommend firing that technician. If you're going to hold your customers hostage to a pre-paid and non-refundable (after 24hr before appointment window) deposit, you need to hire people who are professional and have been trained to do their job.
