tripadvisorfound pruitt trailhead by just riding the trails from ross praire campground, good trails and beautiful scenery
MoreWe’ve hiked here the last 2 days and expect to come back again while in the area. It is a multi purpose site with hiking, biking and equestrian trails too. The trailhead has parking and a port-a-potty. If you take the orange trail, 6 miles later you will come to the Ross Prairie trailhead. It’s a great hiking trail that has very diverse vegetation. We loved the 12 mile hike to/from Pruitt to Ross Prairie.
MoreThis trail takes you through meadows and forested sections. The trail is very obvious. This can be used by hikers, dog lovers, horse lovers. There is adequate parking for horse trailers, too. As with ANY place outdoor in Florida, you may see wildlife. Bug spray would also be advised
MoreSpent the morning hiking with my bff Buc. Started at Pruitt where there is FREE parking, water for Buc (not for humans), and a restroom (port-o-pot). Once you hit the FNST is when the magic starts. Nicely blazed (always in orange) and well maintained. Don't miss Stonehenge, a memorial to Mark Pruitt, at the beginning of the trail. A lot of this hike is up on a ridge. I would guess at least 30 ft above the rest of the forest. Spectacular! Round trip to Ross Prairie is 12 miles. Ross Prairie has real restrooms and drinking water. Amazing hike! Saw deer, jackrabbit, eagle, hawk, and a pack of wild hogs. Round trip took just over 4 hours. Ran into 2 other hikers all morning.. Perfect! Highly recommended!
