Constructed in 1796, Newcom Tavern is one of the oldest buildings in Ohio. The two-story structure was initially used as school, store and it also served as a courthouse during the 18th Century. It was also converted into a museum in 1896, post which it was moved to its current address at Carillon Historical Park. The historic house is still open for visits, however, entry to its second floor is restricted.

tripadvisorWonderful experience for my wife and I and the group we were with. Great exhibition of Dayton history and the Wright Brothers aircraft is one of a kind Great docent’s that are helpful and knowledgeable.
MoreThis was a great way to spend an afternoon. Some of Dayton's mist significant History in one beautiful location. You really get a sense for a manufacturing hub the Midwest was. There is also a great exhibit on the Wright Brothers, The history of NCR and a entire pavilion dedicated the great flood of 1913. If you are in the area this is a must.
MoreWe got there a few minutes after they opened and we still found parking pretty close. They were crowded as they have end of the year field trips. This was a little stressful but could handle it once you got outside everyone could get away from each other. We spent about 5 hours here it does have admission but worth it. Its like several museums all in the same place. They are adding stuff all the time. Since last time I went they put the clock on the tower, moved the train station and some other things. They also have eagle's nesting which also seems to be a draw for photographers. They have free parking and bathrooms, and the train is running and a good way to get an overview of the park.
MoreMultifaceted experience. There is decent to good historic village, much like you've probably encountered elsewhere. There is Dayton history hall, which really has much wider scope than merely local, given the many pioneering industries located both in Dayton and Ohio generally. There's a host of Dayton based transportation including Stoddard-Daytons, which being a car buff I know but don't see often (there may be 40-50 left). There is a really good Wright museum which in itself is worth an hour easily - more if you want to go in depth. A tower to climb - because it's there!. Other hands on / demonstrated exhibits, and maybe most importantly genuinely friendly staff. Was able to have several long, interesting, personal conversations with people who really knew their stuff and who would probably (rightly) see themselves as more caretakers of history than employees. To me, this was well above average, maybe even surprisingly so, and I find it hard to imagine someone walking away dissatisfied.
MoreAwesome park with a ton to see and do. There are a lot of animatronic displays. Whatever you do, don't miss the printing press display building, the worker there gave an awesome explanation of how the machinery worked! The Wright Bros museum inside the park is super cool too as is the Transportation museum. Definitely give yourself at least half a day to go through everything.
