Downtown Madison, Inc ( DMI ) is THE voice of the central city and was formed over 30 years ago to address decaying conditions in downtown Madison. Today we see the fruits of our labor in our healthy and thriving downtown. We are a not-for-profit advocacy organization that exists for and because of our over 500 members. A great region depends on a strong urban core, and that's where we come in. We represent the interests of businesses, residents, employees and visitors in Madison to ensure that our downtown is a great place to live, work, and visit. DMI has played an instrumental role in the revitalization of downtown Madison. From supporting and advocating for the Monona Terrace and the Overture Center for the Arts to starting the Central Business Improvement District, DMI is a strong, active and involved organization. tripadvisorMadison is full of life and happiness
MoreMuch nicer than what I expected for a large capital city. I only saw two homeless people and they weren’t begging. Very little graffiti. Kids going out to eat and get photos for prom, and college students getting photos for graduation were all over downtown and on the capital steps. None of them seemed nervous or concerned. The traffic was not bad at all and it was super clean everywhere. The capital was pleasing to look at. I get the feeling the crime rates are low and that downtown gets a lot of business. Parking was easy to find and super cheap.
MoreWhile touring the State Capitol, we wondered into downtown. I find Madison downtown to be 'above average' to the many other college towns I have visited. It is good size, clean, diverse food, and very walkable.
MoreThe hub of downtown, State Street has got it going on. Stroll from one end (the University) to the other (the Capitol) and enjoy everything in between. Shopping, bars, restaurants, theaters, street music, you name it they've got it. Sunny day or cold and rainy or anything in between there is plenty to experience.
MoreWe got there around 6 at night and no place to park close and had to walk 8 blocks. The area has some homeless people on the street begging for money and some laying around the corners. Had small children with us so not the best for them.
