tripadvisorPopular for fishing when the salmon are running. There is a bridge over the creek and some area along the south side to view the creek. Not that interesting (unless maybe if the fish are biting).
MoreFor being right close to downtown and walking distance from a lot of hotels, this is a fun place to check out to still get a feeling of being in nature a little bit. There’s a 30 minute free parking area in front of The Bridge, so you can scope it out before deciding to pay and stay for longer parking. There is a nice paved pathway and a fully handicap accessible fishing platform, or you can take some of the various foot paths that snake along the river bank. The river is spinning rod and fly rod compatible, and I noticed a fishing gear rental spot right across the bridge from the parking lot. Not many cities you can stay downtown and walk 10 minutes to fly fishing spot where you can rent gear and do the activity right there.
MoreTurned up on a warm ish evening and waded through quite unpleasant mud and goose sludge to a rather ugly stretch of river surrounded by more mud and shipping containers as well as others fishing for the fabled king salmon or Chinook (known locally).Since I was unversed in the local set up for fishing these waters I opted for a blue spinner. There was little action apparent with the other anglers, but on cast number 7 I hooked into a fish much to my glee and others disdain!! Remarks of ‘beginners luck’ and ‘damn Brit’ we’re overheard though a couple of lads sprang to my aid with landing nets and encouragement.Said fish was landed and seemed requisite size, therefore my daily limit was reached and no more casting necessary.I drove home with my bounty after being away no more than half an hour, much to my wife’s surprise and my own!!Truly one of the ugliest spots to fish, but I’ll remember my first as long as I live.
MoreWe stopped here hoping to see a lot of fish. We didn’t, and the water was hard to see through. There were many people in the water fishing, but I didn’t see anyone but one person catch anything. It was interesting watching him cut up the fish. He was friendly, and it was by far the most interesting thing going on there. Next time I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.
MoreI love this place it’s a great place to go fishing. My son and my daughter-in-law and I go fishing here quite a bit and I absolutely love this little spot to go fishing! If you are ever in the Anchorage area and you want to go fishing come on down to ship creek because it is a great place. They have bathrooms and the water if you go at the time that the high tide is going out or coming in it is a great place for fishing. Teens and young kids and everyone can go fishing!
