By starting with a quick trip through the small museum you'll have enough of an introduction to better appreciate the cultural impact of this site. Then walking along winding, hilly trails to the described sites will take you back in time a bit if you make any effort to look around at what might have once been there. Even without the historical aspects, the many marked trails give you a variety of distances to tackle. Make a solid half-day of it and walk them all.

We just happened to see this in a brochure and decided to drive out there. Educational and Beautiful. There are trails to walk the sites.

Located South and East of Sioux Falls at the Iowa Border. Visitors center is NEW. Starts with a 10 minute movie about the history of the area. Museum is filled with items from 10,000 Indians who lived there centuries ago. There is a hiking trail to the River, but too long for older people. Wish there was a long and shorter loop. The trail has trees, plains grass and wild flowers. I enjoyed watching children from a day camp playing Lacrosse the version that the Indians played.

We took our grandkids to the nature area and it was very pretty and informational. there were many different plants, flowers and trees with historic info on the. we learned a lot about the history of the area and people who lived here. we also watched a short film inside the info center that provided us with more history. I wasn't sure how the kids wouls like it but they (ages 10 and 8) seemed to enjoy the walk and the film.
